The film 'Crocodile Dundee' was made in 1986 in Australia, and starred Paul Hogan, a comedian who also wrote the film. The film is based on Rodney Ansell who was accidentally marooned on a small island with only a rifle and dogs. He survived there for two months until he was rescued by an Aboriginal tribe. I'll let you read about how he survived if you're interested...

At one time in his career, Hogan was very popular, but after the release of the film, some Australians became frustrated by the stereotypicalised Aussie he popularised. 'Crocodile Dundee' was made to break the Australian film industry in America, and it certainly did that, but many Australians are nothing like Mick Dundee and resent being thought of as brash and uncouth.

Personally, I am content to have a Aussie like Paul Hogan's Mick Dundee represent our culture. He's an honest, down-to-earth bloke who is just happy getting on with his life, not afraid to discover new things and fall in love. And sure, anyone would love to be able to tell the time by looking at the sun...I mean, at a watch in your hat. Heheh. Steve Irwin can't do that!

Crocodile Dundee is from Australia, and my father in law who is Australian did not care for the stereotype. Now, Paul Hogan lives in Montecito, California which is in Santa Barbara County. He left his wife to marry the co-star.

Crocodile Dundee was filmed in Australia. We have crocodiles in northern Queensland and Northern Territory.
Paul Hogan was discovered by his manager Cornall when he a rigger on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Paul had his own TV programme. Crude as it was but that was his style.
Not all Australians carry on that way.
I live 300 miles west of Sydney we carry on like you do in your own country.

Crocodile Dundee was a character in a movie set in the North of Australia. He is typical of many Australian characters in his laid-back yet practical approach to life's challenges. As a represenative of what we like about our country folk, yes, we admire him very much.

But I hope you don't mean the Crocodile Hunter who is an Australian wildlife programme maker and presenter based in the US. He is so over-dramatic and egotistical that we would like to disown him!

Yes, he is from Australia ( the guy who plays him, anyway) , and I think people in Australia feel just the same as us- some like him, and some don't.
