I am a Christian, and I don't think it's a sin. I haven't seen anyone quoting any scriptures to prove it is. I know that some of the original Christians wanted to rain down fire on city that was not hospitable to them, but Jesus wouldn't let them.
Having said that, I knew a woman I worked with whose husband was evil. He abused her and her her kids, was a drug addict, and a bully in general. I had nothing personal against him, but I found him extremely offensive, and wished death on him several times. Well, some short while later, he ended up dying from a drug overdose. Talking with my daughter about it (she knew this family, too, and went to school with the kids, who were teenagers) I found out that she, too, had wished death on this man, and wondered if she could in any way be responsible for his death. Pretty funny, in a way.
So, this made me think. Probably many people, over the years, had also wished this man dead. Could any of this have contributed to his death? Did God listen to the petition of his people and kill this man? I wonder. Still, an unbeliever would say he just died from his wicked lifestyle.
Anyway, some people are really evil, and you can certainly be forgiven for wishing him dead. I would pray to God to help this situation, and God will do something that will help you and your family, even if this guy doesn't die anytime soon.
Regarding those Bible verses about hating your brother, I think it is referring to your Christian brother, not people who are your enemy and try to do you harm.

Yes it's a sin, but f*** him. Have your sister or any of your family member tried to call the police on him? If not, What are you guys waiting for? You should also try moving out of the area. That's what I did, I had a violent boyfriend before, so we had to moved!

Not necessarily a sin, but bad Karma. Your sister needs to leave him before one of you gets hospitalized or killed by this man with no balls. I hate domestic violence!!! Put him away for a while. As for yourself, you don't take it when he puts his hands on you, right? You're not even the one he's dating, he has no right to lay his hands on anyone!!! As for your mom, your sister should have more respect for you two as her lifelong family, f*ck him. The kids will be much happier later in life the sooner she gets out of this relationship...they're the ones suffering the most right now. He obviously has security issues (cause he's a loser who can't even work to support his mate and kids) to feel the need to hurt others - misery loves company...I bet he's a good manipulator too, huh? If she sees things working out between the two of them on down the road, or if she feels stuck, she should suggest family counseling for the two of them (& kids if they're old enough).

Sinful? I don't know - if you want him dead so for the benefit of your family, then I don't question your motives. I think it's sinful to hate, but it doesn't sound like hate. To give you an example: If I am a soldier, and I kill someone, I don't do it out of hatred, I do it because it is right. God does not punish people for that behavior, in fact, there are many instances in the bible where God ordered his people to kill others.

Well it sounds like my sister's repeatedly scenarios. But to wish death upon someone might be a sin. I would consider it a sin, but like the good ole' Bible we hear about, you just have to ask for forgiveness. You could actually take his life with your bare hands, ask for forgiveness, and its over with. Just reciting the Christian religion.

Let me say it in another way: Would you want that anybody in the world wishes death on you?
No? Then it's a sin!

for one, it's not like you WISHING he would die will actually make him die. but yes, to wish death upon someone is considered a sin. if you read the bible, it says that if a man so much as LOOKS at a woman lustfully, he's committed adultery... WISHING death upon someone is kinda the same. and...
ok & to whoever said "being christian is a sin...".... grow up.

If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

yeah, wishing that about someone is wrong, try not to do it. See a syciatrist! Oh, and call the police if he has put his hands on you and stuff. That's wrong and illegal. Good luck!
