A mother can be a great mother and a father can be a great father but neither one can be the other. Some I hear think there is no difference between the two.

This is really just a matter of word play; the words "mother" and "father" have different meanings for everyone, and have hundreds of historic, religious and social contexts to draw from. On strict definition, of course one can not be the other. But men and women, especially in todays society should not feel pressured into adhering to gender roles, and single parents can certainly raise their children by taking on the aspects of both mother and father.

There's a HUGE difference. Sure a mom can take the place of a deadbeat dad and a dad can take the place of an incompetent mother, and I am sure that the mom or dad who is taking the place of the other parent will try to do their very best for their child, but in reality a child needs both a mom and a dad. Or at least, a good role model of a man or a woman.

i dont think that a father can be a great mother and vice-versa. a mother is a mother and a father is a father. thats it. theres a big difference between the two. if they were completely equal, they wouldnt need to be a 'mother' and a 'father,' they would be called the same thing.
