I was out of town and made out with someone else. When I got back, I told my friends about it and they told not to tell him. I told him any ways and he broke up with me.

Depends who you ask. I've always felt that what you did (the fessing up to the truth part that is) is the right thing to do. Admitting you were wrong takes great strength and courage. But I read something that completely shocked me in the July 2006 Cosmo and they said that if it was a one-time little thing much like you described, you should keep it a secret because it's selfish to unload the burden to make yourself feel better just to vindicate yourself. I'm a little torn on that since I think telling the truth is what you should do and what if you're caught down the road? Then you look like a big fat liar. I think what you did was very honest and I hope you learned from your little mistake when you move forward in your life. Good luck to you.

Yes, you definitely did the right thing by telling him. There isn't much more I can add over the first response, but it never hurts to hear it again. Being able to own up to the mistakes that you've made is a rare quality in people, and it's even more rare for a person to be courageous enough to tell the only person that mistake affected about it. Just make sure you don't beat yourself up over this.

I think this depends on why have you told him!
If you have told him just because you can't keep it and because you are talkative then it's one thing and if you have told him because you love him so much and regret what you have done then that's completely another thing!!

yes you did the right thing. You should have thought about him breaking up with you before you did it. Because always think about this, you would be mad if he did it. It is wrong to cheat no matter how extreme it is!

He should have broken up with you. You were not faithful to the relationship and you told him that you are not a very trustworthy person by your actions.
