Here is a 100% proven method.I tried it and it works! Simply lay bounce fabric dryer sheets in the door ways or on the window sill. Or where ever you see them marching in .They actually stop and go away. It's easy and very cheap. Best of all it works.

Now I am going to be ruthless. It's either us or them. This is your living quarters we're talking about. You have to draw the line. And you had better draw it very soon. Because ants are relentless and organized. They do not have you on their agenda. It is probably what you have left behind that they have their little eyes on. There are people out there who specialize in knowing just how to nail this one. My main point to you is: solve this very soon. Long after the human race is just a thought in space, the ants will still be going about their business, gathering food and reproducing. They are not actually that caring of us. I fully appreciate your wish to show mercy to an annoying problem. I know because I have confronted them for the last month every morning when I come down for hot coffee and a bowl of great tasting cereal. Did you know your pharmacist (druggist) probably knows an easy way to discourage them. Ants! And it is always the little tiny ones. They form this long queue... and you keep tracing it back and it leads to your neighbor's house, 500 feet down the street and you throw your hands in the air and yell ANYTHING TO GET RID OF THEM - HELP!!! The good news and final chapter of this saga is amazing: one day you will come to the kitchen and there will suddenly be - NO ANTS! I am asking the gods to grant you one wish: for that magical day to be very soon - like by the tenth of July. If they do not respond to my supplication on your behalf, then you will have to resort to other means... and to do that you, also, must be relentless. I send this to you with loads of love, a smile, and the hope for success! Sent from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

Here is the perfect remedy. Go to a chemist or garden center and buy a paste in a tube called Nippon. It is a slow acting poison. The ants take into there nests, feed it to their little darlings and in a few days all die and go to the ant paradise. If they are Muslims they will have 75 virgins to pleasure them day and night.

Depends which type of ants you have. There are several types.

Little black ants might be living in a potted plant in your house.
Other ants might be coming in b/c something outside is bothering them, they are hungry, hot/cold.

I was told to put soapy water on the ant hill. It didn't work for me though.

I'd just call a pest control company. Most of them use dilluted chemicals that wont hurt your soil/pets...

I have used fresh lavender you can grow yourself. It smells great and it's non-toxic. However you have to really saturate the area and then reapply at times because after a while they push it out of the way. But they do find it offensive. A line of pure dishsoap works for awhile too. Anything that will disrupt their scent trails.

Most people don't know this but if you have ants you don't have termites. They are enemies. So I don't get rid of my ants I just try to keep things clean and not leave anything that will attract them out. I have heard that borax will keep them out also.

Kill them with your hands. Then wash your hands using rainwater you collected in a barrell. If there's no water in the barrell you're out of luck, because it is not environmentally friendly to turn on and waste water from your faucet.
