No, I wouldn't do it for longer than the recommended time frame (I believe 2 weeks). I did this, and my carb intake was restricted to like 20 per day, which is just ridiculous. I was air-headed, spacey, and lacking energy the whole time. It did work...I lost about 15 pounds during that time. I then upped my carbs to a level where i could maintain that weight (around 80/day). However, after awhile, you get sick of eating just meat all of the time...and I quit it. I would instead recommend a restricted calorie diet with exercise; small meals spread out throughout the day. This is the best method.

lol..you'll NEVER be able to keep up Atkins, or South Beach, for months! People try, because you lose like 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks, and then they blow the diet after a while. You NEED carbs, but limiting them to good carbs is always a good idea. You'll do alot better if you switch the the second phase when you're supposed to, believe it. Just get rid of EVERYTHING that uses white flour (pasta, bread etc.) and switch to whole wheat instead.

The Atkins diet is one of the worst diets out there. It is extremely high in saturated fats and cholesterol which can lead to heart disease (remember, Dr. Atkins died of a massive heart attack). It also completely elimiated carbohydrates which your body needs for energy. Without carbohydrates, your body starts using protein for energy which causes the formation of ketones which are very harmful to your body.
A better diet has good protein sources (not cheese, bacon, fatty meats that Atkins recommends), and complex carbohydrates (fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc)
