i have a sony digital camera cybershot DSC-S40. when i turn on my camera the screen is just plain white. i cant see a thing. when i take a picture with the screen white, and plug the USB cord into my computer, i can see the picture on my computer, but its just not on the that camera i can see it. last time this happened, and i hit it against my palm and went back to normal, but it didnt work this time, when i would hit it against my hand, it would just turn off.

it could be that there is a wire that became loose. You could always send it to a repair shop but make sure you get a quote first before letting them fix it coz its usually expensive and you might be better off buying a new one.

lcd is defective, happens pretty often with this model, send it back to Sony, you might be able to get it repaired for free

you should try and return it if its new if its old then sell it on ebay and use that money to pay for a new camera
