Last night I applied some salycilic acne medication to affected areas on my face. When i woke up and washed it off, some areas that I applied it to made my skin darker there and now it looks horrible...like I have bags not under my eyes but one on my chin and one on my cheek. I applied Neosporin to the areas already, but can you please help me if you know why this happened and if it will clear up and about how long? Thank you, I'm really worried over this and I appreciate even more help/ answers.

Thanks for the answers. They haven't been rude/ made me feel worse than I already do. If anyone else has similar experiences or more advice, I really do appreciate everything.

Salycylic is in an acidic state and is not basic or amphoteric, therefpre the "bags" are burns caused by the salycylic reacting with water from your skin(drawing the water from your skin) in an attempt to reach equilbrium(neutralise itself).
In other words you've burned your skin in the same way that appying the likes of toothepaste to your skin, over a long period of time would also noticabley burn it.

Yeah you had an allergic reaction. Leave it alone and it will go away. Only use neosporine if it's dry. Other than that leave it be.

I cannot tell you how long it will last b/c I cannot see how bad it is... That sylic acid can be some harsh stuff. They put things on the market that are really too strong for most people.

If you want to remove acne...just try alcohol on a cotton ball several times a day. It might dry up your skin though. Stop wearing foundation for one thing....The very best thing is to see a dermatologist...so this doesn't happen again.

Do NOT do anything to treat the acne until this goes away...if you don't heed my warning you might end up with some scarring.

What brand of medication did you put on your face? Was it a prescription? It may have been too strong for you. I would contact a dermotologist if it doesn't clear up in the next day or so. If it gets worse today, call the doctor.

I'd go to a dermatologist as quick as possible. You could have permanently damaged you skin. The sooner you can get a professional to look at it the sooner they may be able to fix it. The Dr. may have to prescribe some lightening cream to even out your skin tone.

Maybe you're alergic to it? Go see a dermatologist.

I really don't know why this happened, but it could be an allergic reaction.
