B/c they are desperate and probably cannot meet ppl in rl.
My coworker does this. I think it's b/c when you get old, you do nothing but work and go home...so unless you become a bar whore, where are you gonna meet guys? I mean I suppose she could try church or wait for friends to hook her up.
I think after HS/College, dating dies down a lot and it's hard to meet ppl...

Well I am not desperate nor lonely and I have "hooked up" with someone from the internet. This day an age it gets harder and harder to meet people. I worked full-time and went to school full-time and was not interested in the bar or club scene. So I tried online dating. I'm not saying everyone on there is great but there are some normal people looking for friendship or even more. You just have to be careful.

1. Because you can meet people that you would have no chance (or next to no chance) of ever running into on the street, like somebody who lives in an area of town where you wouldn't normally go.
2. People who do not like bars and clubs come here looking for other people who don't like bars and clubs.
3. On the internet it is impossible to read somebody's facial expressions, so it is much harder to give things away than it is in person.
4. Because of the barrier created by #3, a lot of people are less inhibited online than they are in person.
5. Even in IM conversations you have much more time to think over what you say. Because of this, it is easy to not slip and say something stupid, turning somebody off.
6. You can screen out candidates by criteria, so you don't waste time on people you aren't interested in. Also you can cover a wide geographical area with a narrow set of criteria this way (if you're picky).
7. People list things about themselves online that you would have to ask them in person (which they might or might not choose to tell you).

Because the online world is just a living fantasy. The things you don't know about the person you hook up with you fill in with your dreams..so basically you think you're in love but it's more of a lust thing. Sometimes it's better to because you get to know the person's personality before you choose them. You also have a huge selection. But for me, it's never gotten me or anyone I know anywhere. It's just nothing but fun and games and a waste of time.

Same reason ppl "hook up" in real time ... Possibly a mutual attraction?personally i get your point,but i also know of a few couples that did meet online then marry.. They been happily married for many years, she was in the US and him overseas.. There is somebody out there for everyone and they may not just be in your backyard and need to broaden your horizon.. On a personal note, i think its silly.. you can only get to know so much of a person on here then eventually have to meet if you want it to go any further. Seems easier to find your mate in your front yard like i did with my husband and not get attracted to words, a particular font, or their sexy avatar.. rofl sorry to me its silly but hey! ppl meet and make it work. to each is their own

the reality when you meet them
u see a 4' 1 inch man that weights 650lbs he works for mcdonalds part time more like 2 hours a week because there afraid hes going to put them out of buisness
moral to this is people can lie to make themselves look better then what they actually are... now there are some people here that are true and honest but.. i wouldnt want to take the chance

I met my husband online and it was the best thing that ever happened. Now we have a 15 month old and are more in love than ever. I know there are alot of pervs out there, but sometime you just have to take a chance. It might just be the best thing ever!!

Because they think it is an easier way to meet the opposite sex than to go on blind dates or have a friend hook them up.

To tell u the truth i dont know why they do it, but i think that they just do it for fun and just want someone to talk to, and then some people they just want someone to go with so bad that they only have the computer and the people on the computer to help them, to me i think it should against the law to that, they just take it over board
