My bf and I just moved into a new apartment and it's 850 sq ft. We have a cat that sheds very little and my bf has terrible allergies when it comes to pet dander.

Because of the holiday, we have to watch my moms cat and it sheds quite a bit. His allergies already bothered him before he left this morning for work so I cleaned the house and vacummed the furniture, etc. Im airing the house out, etc. as well. Is there anything else I can do that will help the allergic reaction go down?

Actually, all your vacuming and ventilating may be making things worse. You're disturbing dander that's already settled and spewing it into the air. Tell your boyfriend to see a doctor. There are prescriptions for such conditions. Otherwise, you may need to buy an air purifier or a Dyson brand vacuum cleaner. Dyson vacuums don't blow dust everywhere like most do.

brush the cats fur to get all the extra off, that will help with shedding. get an air prifier. keep the cat in an area where your bf isnt arround it all the time... yes vaccuming can spread danders and such arround the house, so lay off of that for a while... unless you have a good vaccume that dosnt expell that stuff... i reccomend just keeping the cat in an area that your bf doesnt use, ie. spare bedroom... and that.. make sure you wash your hands, and dont rub/touch your eyes. if you have to wipe the cat with a barely damp cloth, if it was an indoor/outdoor cat normally it could have pollens on its coat that can make allergies worse. wiping the fur with a barly damp cloth can remove some excess pollens...

Go to the pet store and buy a bottle of stuff that will help reduce the allergens on your cat. You simply put some on a rag and rub all over your cat. This is done once a week.

I use an old pillowcase because the material doesn't absorb the liquid much so it is easier to spread on the cat.

Air purifiers are great.

This sound silly - but it does work. Vacuum the cat! Use one of the small car vacuums very gently. It pulls the dander out. I had to do this to a friend's cat I was taking care of . Worked miracles!

Wear gloves - long ones when you do this for your own protection.

I am allergic to pet dander too, and what I did was go to the doctor and she prescribed a medicine to me. It was called Zyrtec. It really works!! Now, I am not bothered by dander. Have him try it!!

Get an Air purifier with a HEPA FILTER..

Price ranges from low to high; but you can get them at target, walmart, or even costco. Good luck!
