It was a sign of respect back then. They wore sandals all the bloody time - their feet got dirty, idiot.

His disciples walked hundreds of miles in the hot middle eastern desert...in leather sandals. He was being a good buddy & helping them out. Some people just have respect for others..you know what i mean??

Foot washing was common in that culture at that time in world history. It was done by the lowest member of the household staff. When Jesus did this He was showing that we must be servants one to the other and he that would be great among Christians would be the servants of all.

Jesus washed the deciples feet to show that we should also serve, that all should serve God, If you read in the Bible, It will tell you this, that we should all be equal, and no one is better than the other.
