Children who are brought and taught the ideas of the Christian church are taught the same thing every week for years. They are surrounded by people who have that belief and in the end they are so accustomed to that belief that any other kind of religion would seem untrue to them just because they have been taught for so long that christianity is true that they no longer have control of what they believe?

Absolutely! What produces terrorism abroad produces ultra-right wing conservative here. Don't believe me? Look at James Dobson, one of the most vile human beings on the planet.

Would you even believe the things your saying yourself? Anyone can think for their own even if they are kids. That brainwashing things is really a notion and it's too ignorant to say that because they are raised in a christian home that they do not have the ability to think for themselves. Ask many atheist who has christian roots, if that above statement is true there'd be no atheist raised from a christian family. And besides the point, everyone needs a good brainwashing from the filth of this world, thats what you do anyway on something dirty, you wash it so it'll become clean...that's what Christians are, washed in the blood of Jesus Christ...will I explain that too?

When we were told that Santa wasn't actually real anymore, everyone grew up a little and realized that hey, maybe my parents aren't always telling the truth. But I've reexamined my faith, and I still want to follow it.

I think a cult is some sort of an organization with a belief system that centers upon the permanence and complete devotion of its members. I have always questioned my faith -- I'm supposed to, it's how you grow in it, or perhaps turn away from it! Look at a real, 100%-for-sure cult, and see if you can find out how many of its members (the ones who grew up in it) have left it. I would expect it to be far fewer than, say, a true religious organization like Catholicism. Therein lies the difference.

Children can think; and the same is true of adults. Are children brainwashed by culture, science, environment or music?I know a young man who rejected the church his mother attended. When he went to her church he stayed outside. However, when he went to the church of his choice, he was a different person. She asked my advice and I told her to allow him to choose. She nor I had any 'trouble' from him after he began attending the church of his choice.Another friend who grew up in a certain church was married to a wife beater and could not get a divorce in spite of his terrorism. She had a baby with another man in order to get a divorce. Now she attends another church and is happier.People are thinkers and as such, they make choices.

Uh, no. As a child who went to Catholic school, CCD, and was and alter server at church every week, I can attest that most people manage to understand the difference between reality and belief. And I can also say that being "surrounded" by this on a constant basis does not necessarily lead a child to believe... it can in fact have the exact opposite effect, as it did with me, my brother, and a number of my friends.

Better to believe in God than the contrary however you want to say it.

By the way the "brainwashing" you speak of only occurs for a few hours a week. The cultural "brainwashing" occurs all the rest of the time (which is the majority).

I think brainwashing implies some malicious intent, whereas most preachers, churches, etc are sincere in their beliefs.

However, this is a possibility. Everyone should make their own decisions regarding religion, which is specifically why in the Baha'i faith you cannot even declare until you are 15, and must do so on your own.

ONLY if people were using brain washing type tactics. I know my church teach us all to find out for ourselves if the things being taught are true so we can have a personal testimony of the things being taught.

I think it depends on the family, I was raised in a Catholic home, but also encouraged to believe what worked for me. One of my best friends was raised in a Baptist house and had no choice in the matter.

Once out of your parents home it is totally up to the individual to make their decision.

I fear that Muslim countries have much more forced religion than the US does

Yeah, same for school. It is all a conspiracy, 1+1=3 in reality.

Controll of belief is always up to the individual. The alternative is to raise children with no moral reference.

So, I gather you don't have kids. If there isn't some way to indoctrinate them with repercussions for actions they haven't experienced, then they are out of control.

Besides, asking if there is truth to your beliefs is central to Judeo-Christian-Muslim faith.

I ain't speaking for you personally, you sound all sorts of screwed up; but us of faith have considered the benefits and drawbacks of faith, and made our choose. Try it yourself.
