My boyfriend wants this prepared for dinner. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to snap the leaves off the stems at a certain point, or what? Do I boil it like turnip greens and spinach?

What do I put on it, vinegar? Butter?

Steamed:
Stuff the leaves into the dish whole - don't worry, it will cook down quickly.
Microwave in corningware with lid 4 minutes, fluff with tongs so that natural moisture is distributed. Micro again for 1:00 minute longer and leave lid on. Drain just before plating. You can prepare this 15 minutes before sitting down to eat. The time that it sits after nuking, it continues to steam. For goodnes sakes, don't boil it, you'll lose all the vitamins!
You can clean it as noted below.

Sauteed -- a little more flavorful
Clean and coarsely chop (2 bunches)Chard. Quickly sautee (med-high heat), in 1 -1/2 TBS olive oil, adding approx. 1 tsp. minced garlic, pinch of salt, and a pinch of crushed red chile. Sautee quickly until wilted. Once wilted, remove from heat, placing lid on pan until ready to serve.
**Wash thoroughly, cut off stems (they have tendency to be too tough and stringy for most palates.
