If they only have their mother's milk to drink, why would they have worms?

They get the worms through the mothers milk. Even if the mother is wormed well before pregnancy, they can still spred worm to the puppies. There are cycts in the muscle tissue of the mother and the stress and hormones of pregnancy cause them to be released into the milk and to the puppies.
All puppies need to be wormed!!!!!!! Roundworms are able to be transmitted to children.

It is sad to see how amny people are clueless about how parasites are spread. This is why they so many kids become infected with them.
I have had and bred dogs for YEARS and I follow are very strict worming protocol for my adult dogs, but the puppies are ALWAYS wromed at 3,4,6,8,and 10 weeks. That and good sanitation prevent them from becoming a problem!!! If more people wormed puppies before they sold them, and owners wormed them after getting them, they would have healthier dogs.

I'm not sure why but, they DO have round worms for sure.
Either they are passed on by the mother [I don't understand that when the mother isn't supposed to have worms] or maybe the eggs are brought inside when the mother goes outside to use the bathroom. We even wiped off the mothers feet and the pups still had round worms.
We never believed it until we saw it. Our pups were kept inside and were kept in a clean place.
The site I found said worm for hookworms also. Ask your area Vet.

To answer your question:
How do pets get worms?
Puppies and kittens are born with intestinal worms. This occurs because worms resting within the mother’s body are stimulated to grow by hormones secreted during pregnancy. The newly developed worms within the mother pass through the placenta (transplacental) and into the young before they are born. In addition, worms are passed through the mother’s milk (transmammary) to the young. Puppies, kittens, and lactating bitches and queens should be wormed routinely.

Adult pets pick up worms from eggs that stay in the soil after pets have defecated. Some worm eggs survive for years in soil. Pets also pick up worms from
eating fleas
catching prey, such as mice and snails
eating feces of other pets and farm animals

And if this lady is mating 2 specific breeds in combination, she's BYBing - if now not outright Puppy Farming and for definite, may not be worming her dogs as they must be. Your dog must be wormed - ask your vet for a well wormer, while you're taking her in for her vaccination pictures.

I have had lots of puppies and I think it's the norm. The mother passes it to the puppies. I don't know how, but they are usually dewormed as a protocol to start them off healthy.
