It is often said that no one would do the things illegal aliens do at the low wages they are paid. If we reduced the welfare recipients by 75%, wouldn't that create a pool of US citizens who would be willing to work for the lower wages so we could give the illegal's the boot?

I say 'trash welfare'. There should be some kind of structure to support women with little kids and no income, because some guys knock women up and hit the road...never to be seen again. Such impromptu 'families' need public assistance. I don't support doing that for foreigners, because that paves the path for the 'anchor baby' thing...anyway it should be done on a case-by-case basis, whatever's done needs to be well-managed so that riding a public program doesn't turn into a career for people....

I've held minimum-wage jobs, and they sucked, but I did em anyway. If someone's hiring, don't turn your nose up, turn in an application. Maybe it doesn't have all the benefits and 'sugar' you want, but maybe you really don't need half that stuff anyway.
I'd rather see americans roll up their sleeves and get out there and do some manual labor, rather than paying Manuel 3 bucks an hour to do it for them. I'm not saying that Manuel doesn't need an opportunity, I'm saying that it's not the job of american citizens to give him one. But: we can collectively do Manuel a BIG favor, and that's to lean on the corrupt institutions of Mexico until they see fit to reform and make their country a better place for those living in it...so they don't have to risk life, limb, incarceration and worse to try and have a shot at a decent life. Mexico's the real problem here, america's been plenty tolerant for decades, trying to help, trying to be a good neighbor, but you can't be blind to trends. Drugs and illegal labor have to be worth 50 billion annually to Mexico. Also, they need to cut their population growth rate, and stop expecting america to pick up the tab for their lack of planning...unless that IS the plan...in which case that fence can't go in place fast enough...

You are so ignorant.

The "welfare recipients" you are talking about are mostly children. Therefore, they can't work. You are a real loser to say these things about America's most poor and needy, especially when you yourself have been given so much by your parents.

As far as your racist claims about "illegals" you are simply factually wrong on every level.

According to a report in last year’s New York Times, each year, undocumented immigrants pay an estimated $7 billion more than they get from Social Security and $1.5 billion more than they get from Medicare.

This should increase SSI shouldn't it? In your logic yes, but for those of us who know, we realize this is not how it is funded whatsoever so why waste time on stupid analogies.

The myth of “lazy” immigrants cheating U.S. taxpayers and living off welfare couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Welfare is a dismal failure in addressing poverty, we should be ashamed as such a rich country to provide those who can't work so little.

And "family values"? An entire family’s benefits can be sanctioned for up to 30 days in 36 states. This can happen if the applicant misses one of her job appointments, or if her child is sick and misses too many days of school, or even if her landlord says that she paid her rent late!

All people must challenge this war on women, children, minorities, the poor and immigrants--and fight to reestablish a true safety net for all citizens as a basic human right.

I wish some people would not post when they have no clue. Alas, it is ok since we are in America. My point is....I used to be on welfare. While on welfare, I had two children 9 years apart (can't say I was a baby maker) started college at 30 when my youngest was 5 months old. I went 22 credit hours each quarter, worked part time too. When I graduated, I got off of welfare. There were ALOT of other women out there just like me. I must say though, I was better off when I was on it. I am now 38 and cannot get medical. I have some serious medical conditions that require it. I guess I can wait till I am permanently disabled and then collect social security then. I had money to feed my kids. Thank God it is just myself right now or I'd be in a world of poop. Ok, so I am rambling. Not all people who have been or who are on welfare are low life scum sucking degenerate baby makers, ok? Yes, there are those out there. Just like people living on unemployment as long as they can instead of getting another job. Until you have been in someone else's shoes, don't judge. You make yourself sound like an idiot.

No, I don't think that welfare should be eliminated. Because you have the elderly people who is unable to work and need this assistance. But, for all of these young woman a line should be drawn, make it mandatory for them to complete school and get training where they can go out and find gainful employment. The Welfare system is a joke.

HELL YES GIRL HELL YES!

I think i love you.

You are really the only other non-liberal i've come across on this damn thing, probably considering all liberals dont have jobs (yeah i know...stereotype...but this site is proving it!)

Maybe instead of begging for money from the pockets of hard-working americans, they should become hard-workers themselves and learn what its like to live in the real world rather than LA LA land with their personal butt-buddy Bill Clinton.

Would that included the million of soldiers who get SSD? And welfare just to survive. Who served their country and came home with many problems?
Does it included the Elderly?
Does it included the man hit by a car by a drunk and can no longer help himself?
Or the child who was bore with trouble and can't help themselves?

Shall I go on?

Answer is no. A society like America needs to grow, not going back to doing menial works. We grow from agricultural nation to industrial to service sector, we don't want to go in the opposite direction.
