If you can find a picture of one that you like, take it to your local major grocery store that has an instore bakery. They probably have a computer program that will scan the picture and print it on on a special edible transfer that you lay on the cake. Then you can decorate with a couple of matchbox cars and do the writing/candles. At four, he won't care about the difference between a moulded cake and a transfer. He'll just care that it's a Corvette and he gets the toy.

Having the party from 2 to 5 will make the parents feed their kids lunch before and dinner after. You could put some chips or pretzels on the table and serve soda or juice. Just let the kids play outside and if they get bored you can organize a hide and seek type game. When I was young my mom would create scavenger hunts by hiding things around the house and yard and make clues up to where we could find them (like one led to another). It is easy to do and costs nothing (unless you wanted to hide small prizes for the kids along the way, but you could find them at the dollar store). Just try and keep the number of guests down and the kids busy and you won't spend a fortune.

You could always make a mold from a 1/8 scale toy corvette from a discount store. I think that as children we have all had a cheap plastic toy car that was just one piece of plastic molded into the shape of the car with 2 sets of wheels snapped on the bottom.

You have to make the cake in a large pan and cut it in the shape you want then do the details with different colored icing.
