YES!!! Absolutely. Diet Coke, unless it's "caffeine free," has just as much caffeine as regular Coke, and caffeine increases heart rate which can trigger and/or intensify anxiety. My boyfriend used to suffer from anxiety attacks, and he found that caffeine could trigger them.
Here's the math: Soda generally contains between 10-50mg of caffeine per serving-- but if you're having 64 ounces (or 5 cans) per day and there are 2 servings per can, that's 100-500mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to about 2 cups of caffeinated coffee... That's a significant intake, even by itself!
So I would suggest, based on that, to cut back your intake of caffeine per day. I recommend switching to "caffeine free" diet coke.

Anxiety is caused by, a reaction of unfamiliar, and/or uncomfortable circumstances (a place,a person,an event), and then the bio/chem levels of the body searches for chemicals in you body to give it a real boost of uncomfortable feeling of rushing sensations that are uncomfortable intensities to the body.
So if the sugar substitute in diet coke is compatible with your body type (an unknown factor for me right now on many levels), to boost your chemical, biological anxiety reaction, then is would be a cause of intensifying the anxiety, and not causing the anxiety itself.
Also we live in a culture that has an idea on what anxiety is on a biochemical level of understanding, but our cultural science doesn't understand that the full process of combining all the mico-cosmical understand (atoms on up)with a macro-cosmical view and understanding (the universe on down, and yes, there is a basics understanding of the macro-Cosmo, but that level of understanding is way too shallow as of right now). So I'll say that it's more complex then what a majority of modern scientists would believe in, and going beyond that, the causes and condition for an anxiety attack deals more with the levels of the mind (the non-physical manifestation), and less of the brain's (the physical manifestation), in which the brain is reacting from the mind, and then finding the right chemicals to continue to the biochemical level that the mind had released.
The causes and conditions of a confused mind is the major factor in what causes anxiety., and what you put in your body well intensify the reaction. So if you see someone in anxiety, it has to do more with the current situation that they are in mentally.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/RemediesForAnxiety
Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:
Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.
If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.
