Every sunday Priests are taking parts of the bible out of context. But when someone else uses Leviticus as an argument for the hypocracy of the Christian religion then it's uneducated and out of context?

"And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver." -- Leviticus 27:6

Priests are the earthly representation of God, sort of God's emissaries. In the larger Christian sects, their dogma is pretty well established, and any priest in that denomination is held to that interpretation of scripture: all Catholic priests interpret it the same way, all Lutheran priests do, etc. That's the reason they go to seminary school to become priests -- so they get their stories straight, as it were. During sermons, they are allowed a little bit of leeway in interpreting scripture to fit current events and issues -- after all, I've seen plenty of burning bushes in my time, but none of them talked to me.

You, however, will not be taken as seriously for your interpretation of the Bible because you are not in a position of religious authority; no one has said that you have the requisite training, education or whatever to interpret the scripture. It's sort of like me taking a look at your MRI and saying, "Yep, that squiggly bit over there looks like a tumor to me. Hold real still and I'll pop that baby out in a jiffy."

Actually most good Priests do not take it out of context, they will read a passage and expound on it, relate it to other verses, and all the while give you the passages so that you can read the chapters around it. The best pastors are those that give you the seed and then you can research more about it.

The book of Revelation specifically says that no one should add to or take away from Scripture. It shouldn't be taken out of context; this is why it is important for all servants of the Lord to study the Word of God.

Anyone who takes scripture out of context to suit their own purpose is wrong.

Christianity is not hypocritical--only those who claim to be Christian, but behave badly.
