If you have a full fare flexible ticket the cheapest way is to just ask at the check in. Sometimes if Economy is really busy and there are seats available in Business or even First you can get an upgrade. But you must have a fully flexible ticket to do that. Or be a Silver or Gold card member of the Executive Club or associated frequent flyer scheme.

BA do offer an Economy Plus cabin with more leg room and slightly better seats for a premium on most of their economy tickets but to be honest unless you are 7ft tall it's not worth the extra.

Best advice is to turn up to check in early, look neat and tidy and just ask if there would be a chance of an upgrade. Sometimes being a little cheeky can get you places. Oh and if you do have a full fare ticket ask about the business lounge as most of the time you can use it.

Nope. Dream on. If it were accessible, and if I deliberate to fly -- like from Chicago to London -- i'd sign up for one type on the close by community college, get the student identity, and use that to purchase air tickets, because the price of the kind will be plenty lower than even a 10% low cost for a lengthy-haul value ticket. Heck, i'd sign up for a kind i'd savour and probable even flow to the stupid type. you do not imagine the airways would ascertain that out in short order?
