my son calls his grandparents mama mama, buddy mama, mama chelle, pampa, pampa al. Pretty much what he could say w/ whatever reminds him of that grandparent. My mom is buddy mama cause she has a dog named buddy, my step mom-in-law is mama mama cause he she her the most. My husband calls his grandparents nanny & papa. My step dad likes my son to call him by his name, he isn't confortable with a grandparent label.so go with what u like or the child likes to call u. I sure hope I've been of help to you!

Our friends use the name of the pets with the grandparents.
One has a dog named Lily, so they are grammy and grampy Lily
One has a cat named Belle, so they are nana and papa Belle
You get the idea, the kids won't get confused when it comes to pets ( the only names my children remember when they meet a new person)
Hope this helps
Congratulations on being New Grandparents!! A child can never have too many people who love them!

Do you have any other g- children? If so use the same name.
I think when I become a gran I would like to be called Mam, It is the shortened version of Mamgu which is welsh for Nana. And hubby will be Dad again short for Dadcu Welsh for grandad.
We would not have a problem with mammy and Daddy being shortened as children do not shorten their parents names.

What every you are called. Enjoy the baby and the whole experience.
Make sure you spend as much time as possible.
Hugs

Our kids just call their step grandparents the same as their step siblings do. Nana Jackie and Grandpa for my husbands parents and Grandma Bonnie and Grandpa Don for my parents. Then their other familys are grandmas and grandpas also with a papa. They use first names added to some of them to avoid confusion. Our kids have a lot of grandparents! I think it's whatever the kids and grandparents feel comfortable with.

Why would you have to have different names? Grandma and Gram-pa work just as well as any. I have step kids and they call my mom and dad grandma and grandpa same as my biologic child and when we see the other grandparents we call them the same what ever the family name is for the grandparents (Ie grandparents on my moms side is grandma meme and papa) grandparents on dad's side is gram-pa-pop and grandma-ma whatever names the cousins and grand kids came up with is what everyone is going to start calling you anyway.
Best wishes..

You can try using your first names "Grandma Jane and Grandpa Joe" for example. That way it's a little less formal than the normal grandparents greetings and it should set you apart from the biological ones and make it easier for the kids to distinguish between everyone! What lucky kids they are too! Not many step-grandparents seem to want to be involved! Kudos to you!

as a step grand parent for 20 years now it seems to me that the best way is to let the child decide why should there be any barriers? the child is your grandchild be it by marriage or love would you treat it any different than your own ? I have three step children from my first marriage and two from my second as well as four children of my own between my step childrn and my own kids i have 25 grandchildren all at the ripe age of 42 they all call me nanna and i love all of them the same as if they were all my biological kids
let the kid decide when its old enough dont be confusing it with barriers or distinctions love it all the same and you will reap the rewards believe me

I wouldnt worry and plan too much for this one cos children end up picking up the funniest names for grandparents for example my sons grew up calling my mother "purple granny" why? cos they remember her wearing purple a lot! ( she did have a couple of purple jumpers when they were very small but I didnt make the connection)
It will more than likely come naturally, along the lines of nana jane, papa joe.
Good luck and enjoy!

My daughter calls my mother's husband, Papa John....and my father: Grandpa Tony. Her one great grandmother is known as GG. Because she's been blessed with an abundance of grandparents or 'senior' relatives we've given them specific names to avoid confusion.

The best name is one that you're comfortable with and one that the child can easily say and remember.

For grandmothers: Grandma, Grammy, Mema, Nana, Nanny, Grams

For grandfathers: Grandpa, Grands, Gramps, Papa, Pops, Poppy, Big Pop

You could also try a cute variation of their first (or last name)... my mother-in-law could be GG (for Grandma Gayle) or my mom could be Miss Nan (for Nancy)...
