The most romantic way is to make it individual to her. Think of something she really loves or something you once did that she thought was really sweet and capitalize on it. Bigger isn't always better. It really is the thought that counts. If you make it something out of a movie, like a carriage ride through the park and champagne, it will be sweet but unoriginal. Try to make it as much about her and the things she loves to let her know that you know her and love her enough to pay attention to what makes her tick. That will be more romantic than a bunch of rose petals and a fancy spa.

The element of surprise is what getting engaged is all about...usually the two of you have talked about it already, so getting engaged is really the presentation of the ring at a time when she is least expecting it. Try to tie into an activity you both enjoy that will be both memorable and fun. For example, getting the baseball stadium to jumbotron the two of you as the question is popped in lights for the world to see as you pull the ring out of your pocket to give to her. Or if you're movie buffs, hiding the wrapped ring box in the middle of her popcorn, etc. Use your imagination and she'll talk about it forever... or at least until you join the 68% of couples who get divorced! ;)

i think the most romantic way to purpose is on a fancy evening out to an expensive restaurant or in a public park.

my husband purposed at a josh groban's concert... he didn't know that 3 was my favorite number and get this
he asked me during the 3rd song of the night, its the 3rd song on the cd, my ring had three diamonds on one side, three in the middle, three on the other.
the date was 3/13/05 and we are a family of three..
i think that this is a cool way to proposal... :)

Take her somewhere to get a caracature drawn of the 2 of you. Have the artist draw you on one knee. When he gives it to her and she looks confused, get down on your knee and propose in front of the crowd. That's how mine did it and it was incredible. She'll always have the picture to remember it.
