What seperates us from Jesus Christ in a big way is the fact that He was born a virgin birth. He is God incarnate as no one can become. How could He take away the sins of the world if He wasn't God? When you really think about it, it only makes sense to have God come down to become one of His creation and to prove His love by dying for us and our sins. We all know that that's what true love is.

Jesus has a very important role in our lives. He is our savior, our redeemer, the author of our salvation. No one can take his place in our lives. Without Jesus we cannot be saved. Under no other name is salvation. He is our advocate with the Father. Jesus was the God of the Old Testament, and he did come down to save us from our sins. He did prove his love for us.

But, what did Jesus mean when he prayed to the Father that his disciples might be one with him and the Father, just as Jesus was one with the Father? How can Jesus be ETERNALLY separated from us if we become one with him and the Father? Isn't true love to become one, as a man and a wife are supposed to become one? How could Jesus love us if the Father did not allow us to become one?

The New Testament talks about becoming joint heirs with Christ. Doesn't this mean that we may inherit the same blessings? It means that we may become a God as Jesus. When we are one with God we are also Gods. But this will not change or destroy the special relationship we have with Jesus. We still don't save ourselves from our sins.

While it is true that we believe that those who are exalted can become "gods" over their own spirit children, we still believe that Jesus and God the Father are our God. That doesn't diminish Jesus or God's role in our lives even if we become exalted. Take this example: We were born to parents on this earth. We grow up and have children but we still refer our parents as our parents; nothing changes that. We now have our own children to take care of but we still acknowledge our parents as... well, our parents. It's the same as our relationship with God The Father. Jesus isn't god.... God is God.... Jesus is the son of God just as we are children of God... Jesus was chosen by God to teach us of God's gospel and plan for each of us, that was God's plan for Jesus. Jesus gave us God's teachings, died for us. What we do with those teachings is up to us.

Mormons also believe in a "celestial mother" figure that is a god-counterpart to Mary, so they are technically polytheists and not Christian, although they co-opt Christian figures in their own "religion".
