The system requirements outline the minimum supported requirements for the software. This can be found on the packaging, or on Adobe's website. Online stores will also list this info.
For CS, the OS support is for: Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or Windows XP. On the Mac side: OS X v.10.2.4, 10.2.5, 10.2.6, or 10.2.7 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/system-requirements/B0000DBOAX/ref=noref/002-4689218-1663257?ie=UTF8&n=229534&s=software
CS2 has slightly different requirements:Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 4, or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2. Mac OS X v.10.2.8 through v.10.4 (10.3.4 through 10.4 recommended) http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/systemreqs.html

Call Adobe. They can solve your lost DVD issue. You cannot get any Photoshop DVD free. No one will give you one. PleAsE TuRn OfF YoUr Titles Caps App. It Is Very Annoying. EDIT: Try not to say "Need It Because Upgrading Mac OS X". Instead, tell exactly what version for the current and the upgrade. If you have OS 10.5, you can install OS 10.6 right over it; no erase is needed. People are overly cautious when they erase the drive before upgrading. Not needed at all. After upgrading, the Photoshop files will not be changed at all. BTW, I have tried CS with OS 10.6, and no-go. You probably need CS3 or later. If you have OS 10.5 and are upgrading to OS 10.7, you definitely won't be able to use the first CS.

You can get Photoshop CS on both Windows and Mac. Don't know about Linux or any others though.
