was written by a bunch of men trying to fool us into believing in some fairy tale, so they could control everyone?

can you prove that it wasn't created for just this purpose?

and saying that god wrote the bible does not prove that he did?

it was written over the course of a couple thousand years by quite a few men who never even met or knew each other, yet had the same accounts, tone, and direction as each other. Some parts where written during war, others during peace, in times when the people were scattered across the ancient middle east, yet still they all have similarities.

Mind you these were times when the Torah wasnt even read by most of Israel, let alone HEARD by the people. Most of the people who wrote it had never read the words of the men before them, they were writing directly from their own personal experience.

What on earth would they benefit from trying to fool millions?

Perhaps you should make up your mind about what you believe, and then leave it at that. You have a life to live, and iam sure it could be better done without attacking the places where other people stand. Arguing does nothing but create resentment and high blood pressure, both things take lives.

I know that the bible was written by prophets and good men because as soon as I started actually paying attention to what was in it and following the rules my life turned around and I become a respectible person. Only God could give out that kind of powerful information. Some one who just wanted people to read a fairy tale would not have been that insightful.

Personally I think it was just a book written by people with stories, maybe some true and lots of fiction and peoples limited understanding and ways of explaining things, as a history of those times and as a guide fitting for those times of how people should live. A bit controlling... I mean, just the place of women in it, you can tell it is from people and written during times where women were still treated as less.

Though I also wonder if it's even as old as people think. Consider the fact that...if someone started up a new religion, like Scientology for example. All the people would have to do is raise enough generations in it to believe that it's a certain age, and after several generations the truth of it's real age it gone and they all think it's a lot older then it is.

No there is no absolute empirical evidence that an almighty being created the bible. However, the fact that more that 2 billion believers (33% of earth's population) believe it's true and the fact that it is the longest surviving book on record makes my faith not difficult to come by.

One last thought. If the men that wrote it were merely trying to control us, but the message they were preaching was the correct one (ie: be good to one another, love before violence, etc) is there anything wrong with being controlled to do the right thing?

Sorry to answer your question with another, just think about it

Well, there is historical proof that Jesus actually did exist, so it isn't entirely a "fairy tale". I think that rational people understand that while it is based in fact, it isn't entirely factual.

You say that they are trying to control everyone, but no one is forced to believe in Christianity. In fact, you CANT force someone to believe. So the decision to believe is entirely up to the believer and really has nothing to do with whether some men tried to fool them or not.

The "Conversion by Sword" thing suggests that those who wrote the bible did that... but they were not responsible for the Inquisition et al. And the point was that you can say you believe without actually believing... in order to avoid the sword.

Well, one thing is for sure- The Bible was written by a bunch of men. What's not entailed is the fact that Black people were the first ones of civilization. "The man" has been doing it for years! Even changing the TRUE meaning of some words in the bible (and in English) to place it in their favor!

Read Isaiah 18:2 Then go get "Return To Glory"

Sorry, I've been kinda on a Black Power Trip all week long.....lol......but it's fact, man!

I believe that the bible is a collection of stories that were finally written down after being passed down from generation to generation by those who where afraid the stories would be lost. I think it is with that in mind that one has to decide if it is 100% true which I doubt, as stories change in the telling. I think it is up to each person what they want to believe.

I think the bible was written by many different men who were trying to record history. Like any history it is part truth and part fiction and biased to the author.I don't think the actual writers ever intended what it is actually being used for now; that was done later.
