I know you said no pink, but I just wanted to suggest this and you can pick your own color scheme:

My 13yr old sister in law reciently painted her room brilliant blue, lime green, and hot pink(more on the pastel end of "hot"). On three of the walls she did individual solids of the three colors and on the third wall, she did a pin stripe about 1" thick each of the colors alternating. IT LOOKS AWESOME! Perhaps a purple, blue and green... Just a thought... It's a really fun room though! Good luck!

I am not sure about your budget- but most pre teens change their minds so I would stick to cheap! Go to good will or garage sales- select the basic furniture shapes you have in mind- a dresser, night stand, etc. Sand them lightly and spray paint in her favorite color- or let her do it- Decoupage (cut and glue) her number one interest on the pieces. Select one or two of the colors and use them on the walls. Maybe bold stripes or three walls one color and the last as the focal point.

Well you can start out by the kind of girl you are.If you are a hot girl and like hot boys you could probably put boy pictures in your room. If you are a girly girl then you could probably put barbie dolls or pictures of other weird dolls girly girls play with.

Take her shopping. Have some bonding time. Find out what she likes. Take her to Wal-mart, a department store, Pier One, pottery barn etc. and see what she is drawn to. Have lunch and take in a movie maybe.
