I don't know, but maybe your dog senses that you really like this guy and he's jealous? Or there's something about the guy that he just doesn't like? Have you had Pugsy since he was a puppy? If not, maybe he came from an abusive situation with someone that looks like your new neighbor. I'd talk to the vet about it and see what they could suggest. An animal psychologist could probably advise you well.

when did you adopt your dog....
Because this man could look like a man who had the dog when he was younger or visited the pound or was in someway absuive to him .. o rhe could look like a vet or a kennel owner that caused him pain
the best thing you can do is train Pugsy and
explain to your neighbor that you don't understnad why Pugsy is acting this way and that you are very sorry usually he is a alm dog
in order to train pugsy reward him and praise him when the guy is around this will generaly teach him to associate yoru neighbro with happiness

it might be jealousy, but I'd trust your dog. especially as he freaks out at the guys door, not just when he's there. he might be smelling something he really doesn't like.

when I was very young we had a dog who was otherwise very gentle and sweet, but if she smelled alcohol on someone, she wouldn't let them near the house. Pugsy could be the same way.

until you find out more about this guy, trust Pugsy. he's just looking out for you.

I would advise you to take a step back and see what Pugsy see's. Especially if the dog has not had this reaction to other new men he's met.

As above - jealosy is very common and possessiveness when you're female and the dog is male. I had similar problems with my last male dog. Didn't like men talking to me, unless we were in the park, then he didn't care :)

By the same token, my female dog will freak out occassionally and I know no idea why, I just trust she can see and smell things I can't and trust her instincts. She gets into full protection mode. Otherwise, she's fine with people, etc. Better safe than sorry.

So it can go either way... does your dog react this way to other men? or just this one guy? If it's isolated, I'd trust his instincts and stay away from the guy.

Listen to Pugsy. There's something unsavory about the guy.

Maybe he getting the wrong vibe of off him or you. Maybe he likes you, and/or you are attracted to him. The dog could just be jealous. Or he could projecting an aggressive, or fearful vibe. Or you could. Our mild mannered dog would growl at our "problem" next door neighbor only when my mother was around. (She hated, and most likely feared him. Something do with being a drunk, and wife-beater.) To make matters worse you are most likely adding to the problem as you get tense when ever you get near him. You should really take your dog some obedience classes so he realizes that you are in charge, and when you tell him to cool it he needs to listen.

PS- Maybe the guy is a creep and possibly dangerous. Does/Did your dog get along with your (ex)boyfriends, and random guys who hit on you in the park? If no then there is something off about this guy. Maybe it's just he hates dogs, or is scared of them. Lastly did your dog, or adopt him as an adult. Maybe he was abused by some who looks like you neighbor. (We had a cocker that hated blond girls....)

your dog senses something you don't. Take it from personal experience, trust your dogs instinct and steer clear of this guy. My dog didn't like a guy I was dating (and he loved everyone else) so I though he was jealous. Well, I ended up marrying the guy, well the marriage lasted a whole 10 days, but his stalking me and harrassing me lasted for years. Plus, I found out that while I was away at work, he was coming over and beating my dog, a newfoundland. So, it wasn't my dog that was jealous, it was this jerk, and Jake was trying to warn me. If your dog has never reacted to anyone else in this manner, just follow his senses and good advice - it's the only way he knows how to tell you what's up.

Maybe pugsy feel like your neighbor is a threat, maybe he can sense evil intentions better than you...I'd go with your dog on this one.
