There are some major differences that effect useability and connections with other Yahoo programs. The 360 blogging option directly from messenger is one of the best. The new plugins are super. I have been using it as have my friends for a week or so with no glitchs. This beta seems to be ready for prime time distribution.
Beta is a product that is in a public testing mode. You download it and use it. They depend on your feedback to fix any possible bugs the product might have.

Beta means that the program is still being tested and not officially released. They call it a beta version and then have users use it as a form of testing. Unless you want to be on the bleeding edge of new technology releases don't get a beta version just stick with the last stable relase.

Beta means it's not in finished state yet. Subject to problems. If your willing to put up with problems then Beta OK. I don't like new 8.0 but that's because I find some of the things useless for me. You may like it.

8.0 is pretty cool. It will let you see who on your messenger list with 360 pages has updates and allows you to make calls from your computer to cell phones or landline phones for a rate lower than most phone companies.
8.0 Beta is the public testing stage. Once the public gives feedback, they will tweak 8.0 until it's how they want it.

8 is better... It has plugins, it has some security issues solved and it looks a little better. BETA means that it's not completely, fully, 100% done. But I still recommend it...

i've downloaded msn 8.0 recently. It looks much more different than 7.0. it has some more features, like you can chat with your contacts while you're on appear offline. and hmm,, newer games, and you can msg offline contacts and when they will come online they'll recieve your msg even if your were offline.. so it's pretty cooL :D but msn PLUS doesn't work with it..

Beta software is software that is not fully tested.
I've heard there are UI improvements.
