A 1972 Ford Galaxie 500, all orignal, starts on the first crank, only surface rust, has a 351, and the interior is damn near perfect, all for $700. I ask this question, cause I am a Chevy guy, but I love classic cars. Am I trader for buying a Ford, or do I just have good sense not to let this pass me by?

The car in my pic is my 56' Buick Roadmaster. The Galaxie, I will post a pic of it on my 360 page. I already put a $100 down to hold it for me till tomorrow. Thanks for all the wonderful feedback I have gotten so far. =]

The Galaxie is a 2 door.

1972 is not an exceptionally preferred year. However anything that is old enough to be a real car, with the engine and trany sitting the right direction and rear wheel drive is worth buying, in my book and I was always A GM man. I buy up everything I find, that I can afford. I've got several Fords and even an AMC. To me now, it's not so much the brand as it is preserving real cars. The crusher programs eliminated so many of them, there are alot fewer left than alot of people think. I prefer muscle cars, classics and hot rods but hey, I'd buy this car in a flash.

You don't say whether or not it is 2 or 4 doors, but if it's in the shape you say it is, it sounds pretty good either way. A two door you should be able to turn over for a profit in a hurry. The only downside is that 72 was well into the detuning stages for American vehicles so the engine is almost certainly a 351-M which is not the most tunable thing in the world. A bit of a pig really. Nonetheless, they don't make em anymore.
PS you wouldn't be a trader, but you might be a traitor.

A good deal is a good deal.
That sounds like a good deal.
If you don't want it long-term, clean it up, fix it up (brakes, tires, battery, tune-up) and sell it. You can easily double your money of the car is good.
Here's another thing- The whole "Ford vs.Chevy vs. Mopar" thing is dying any way. It's America vs. the world now. Maybe even "V-8 rear-drive vs. 4 cyl front-wheel drive".
So, choose your team and stick to it. The Galaxie is a cool car (especially if it's a 2-door) and someone will want it.
Even if you part it out, you'll probably make money on it.
With a good running 351C, C6 automatic, and a 9-inch rear, the parts alone are worth what you're paying.
Use your common sense.

Chevrolet is far superior to Ford. However, just because you're a Chevy guy doesn't mean you have to be an idiot.
You definitely made the right move. You're not a traitor, just a car guy. Once you restore the car, no one will complain.

In my opinion, Ford didn't go to shlt until the 80's. Although it is a Ford, that is too good of a steal to pass up.
