Republican Senators and even Kennedy are hinting they would compromise with a 'close border first then do the rest' approach they previously rejected. However, what exactly that means isn't clear. They do seem to be changing their position at least slightly, however.

Perhaps they should focus their energy on finding a real solution instead of a "band-aid" law that will have no real effect on the problem. The illegal immigrants come here for a reason - usually jobs. If you take that reason away by enforcing the current laws that prohibit employers from hiring illegals, there wouldn't be an issue.

Well it's a nice idea but stronger than conservative support is the business money required for them to stay in office. If forced to choose between support of business seeking cheap labor campaign donations versus conservative support they will first choose the "cash" and then try to make amends to the conservatives on some other issue.

They are called "Illegal Aliens" for a reason and that reason is that they are commiting a CRIME by being here.
Every country in the world has immigration laws. Every one. To enter ANY country without going through the proper authorities is a crime EVERYWHERE.
I think it's stupid that anyone needs to discuss this or create more laws. Enforce the existing laws and let's make criminals responsible for their actions!

I hope that it will affect the Senates views. In too many instances there has been a lack of the Senate paying attention to what the voters really want.

It's not just the far right anymore, the immigration issue's gone MAINSTREAM. Mexico and other countries need to move HOME and fix their own damn problems. Sure, america's kind of big and powerful, but even a bull will fall to 'the death by a thousand hornets'. This crap's gotta stop...

If the Senators listen to their constituents and vote the way they recommend; they have nothing to fear from the pressure the conservatives threaten them with as they seek reelection or proffer bills to be acted upon.

its not just the conservatives who are upset over illegal's its the entire nation, left and right....and yes, i think this will be the hot button issue of the next election....american citizens are very tired of working hard, paying taxes and seeing our hard earned money being used by illegals who don't pay taxes to pay for their healthcare, education, financial aid and food stamps.....its a lie that they do jobs americans won't....just ask any 16-17 looking for work because some illegal is willing to work off the books for a dollar below minimum wage...greedy companies would be forced to pay decent wages and provide health coverage to american's if we deported all the illegals.

My Senator is changing from his original stand. I think the pressure from the people telling them where their vote will go did it.
I guess those emails finally got to him
