I have a 17th month old who has tooth decay on the surface of her front tooth. Will a dentist be able to fix it or will it need to be pulled? It isn't TOO bad, but it's definitely noticeable and I don't want it to get any worse. What will the dentist do to fix it?

For those seriously interested in giving GOOD advice, I brush her teeth every night (since they started coming in) and she NEVER takes a bottle to bed and I have NEVER given her juice. She has been off of her bottle since she was 10 months old. I am not interested in hearing your opinion as to whether or not I'm a good parent. I am asking what the options are in fixing it.

If its a baby tooth it will fall out anyway. Otherwise the dentist may pull it out.

My son started getting this same problem when he was that age.... the dentist won't pull the tooth unless it is about to go into the gums. My son has 4 caps (2 clear ones, and 2 silver ones) along his front top teeth, and we have had to get one of his clear ones replaced since my son decided to sneak a hard candy from grandma. As someone mentioned to not worry if they are baby teeth since they will fall out, don't listen to that cause it can spread to more teeth and also get into the gum line since they won't start loosing their baby teeth till they are 4 or 5 yrs old. Take your daughter to a pediadontist (a childrens dentist, with special equipment for kids), if they do cap them , just be strong.... It hurts us moms way more than it actually hurts the kids since most of their painful looks are fear of what's going on.
I wish you lots of luck!!!!!!!!

Oh yea, bottle rot is a possibility ...... but also weak enamal will do it too since my son never drank a bottle at all.....we didn't even own one cause he was breastfed until he was almost 2. He used sippy cups and ate the same foods we did.

Go to a paediatric dentist. Have this problem fixed because if you just let the tooth fall out it will cause problems for the adult teeth that need to come in later. Not to mention the pain it may be causing. My daughter had a white filling put in between her 2 front teeth and you don't even notice it. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

Two of my grandchildren had the same thing. The dentist said it was bottle rot from sleeping with a bottle. He had to pull their front teeth to keep it from effecting the other teeth and because they were only 2 years old and should have those teeth until they are 5 or 6, he had a bridge made for each of them.

Take her to the dentist who treats kids, they are called pedodentist. If the cavity is too big they'll put a crown on it(cap). If it is not too big, they will fill it with the white filling. They'll give her a sleepy juice or a pill. She is gonna get really relaxed. But that won't numb the tooth, she will get the shot ,but it won't hurt as much.Do Not let anybody pull her tooth unless the decay has gone to her Root. She really needs that tooth to stay in her mouth.

How the hell does a baby have Tooth DECAY? HE's a baby?!!! Not an adult. I don't even think it's possible!! Babies have really good teeth! There must be some other disesase, sickness or illness that's causing your one year old to have tooth decay!! Sheesh. You're a bad parent for letting your baby have this! She's not even a kid yet!

Some kids have soft teeth, often a result of what I call 'bad dental genetics' (mine is one of them). On advice from our family dentist, we took him to a pediodentist who gve him a liquid medicine that put him to sleep while his teeth (7 of them, and he is only 4, and yes, we limit sweets and brush them carefully every morning and evening) were repaired.

The argument for repair is that letting them deteriorate further will cause damage to both the bite and the permanent teeth.

The reasoning behind the medication is that it is better for small children to not remember the drill and fill process. This should help prevent dentalphobia as they get older.

Good luck.

How the hell did you let your baby get tooth decay?
Way to go parenting.

The dentist won't want to waste the time and money fixing it unless you insist, since it is a baby tooth. But he'll want to pull it right away.

You let him or her suck on a bottle to long, or something of a bottle nature, this type of thing is very common. Thats why it's important to stop the bottle sucking early. The dentist may put a metal cap on the tooth to save it until it's natural time to fall out.
it happend to one of my cousins and he had metal teeth till he was about 7 or 8

Rememer I told you the reason first , so pick me for best answer please ^_^

My child had the same problem. Go to a dentist who takes care of children and they will cap it. Ask them to use white caps almost like porcelain , it looks like their natural teeth. My 24 month old just had this done. Good luck...
