heat is good as an anti-histamine (i.e. anti-itch). Especially if you have poison ivy on large areas of your body or your face. Get a washcloth as hot as you can stand it, apply directly to the affected areas. Repeat as necessary. Avoid scalding yourself.
I had poison ivy all over my face (swelled up flat w/ the end of my nose). Despite the mega-medicine, the itching simply wouldn't abate between doses. Physician recommended heat, it worked wonders. The heat will help break down the histamines.

Calamine Lotion is really good.
Oh- PS- my Pharmacy tech friend just told me about the special additive, Pramoxine. Go talk to a pharmacist, explain your problem, and say that you want a Calamine Lotion with Pramoxine. It usually includes that ingredient in the small print on the back of the bottle. Also, try an anti-histamine, like Benadryl (if you can take it).
Good luck.

Bactine spray. Just had someone the other night get into either some poison oak or poison ivy. We sprayed the Bactine and it was pretty much cleared up within an hour.
