You cant able to Install operating system Win 98 while win XP is running for that you need to Reformate. If you reformate all of your data of your C-darive/Main disk will erase. So Before that if you have any extra harddisk take back up in that and install /Run your Windows 98. If u want two operating system now you can install/Run Win XP. Then as per your requriements you can your operating system. Bcz the mainthing is that you can go from lower version to upper version U cant do backward, And for Better speed of your computer make particion of your disk for Operating sys use 8% -10% of Harddisk space.

You can't do it that way.

You have to start from scratch and reformat the hard drive while installing Windows 98 from the original CDs, because XP is not backward compatible.

If you need to save any files to an external medium (floppies, for instance), do it before you begin the process, because reformatting the hard drive is not reversable

You don't. Get her some more memory. XP is MUCH better and more stable than Windows 98 and is much easier to use for most novices.

Boot from the Win98 Install CD and choose the options for new installation. It will give you the opportunity to repartition and reformat the hard drive for a completely clean install.

Why not upgrade to more memory? WIN98 is no longer supported by Windows Updates - it is less secure and she will be more prone to intrusion.
