Yup... had to... it was a school requirement. Not only do the hula kahiko, the hula 'auana, the aparima, and otea; I had to drum, play uku, play the guitar and perform the chants using the ipu while the girls performed hula kahiko.
Too tiring... nowadays I jus like to watch da kine yeah? Mor bettah fun!!!

I agree with you on the hukilau... here's another one for you... "lovely hula hands"... enuff to make you climb to the top of a coconut tree!!!

Aloha, I love watching the hula, and I love dancing, so I took lessons a few times. It is SO hard. It is like you need 2 brains. Da kine for the hand movements and the other for the feet. I so admire you dancers that put it all together, and then do it with this serene smile on your face like it is so easy. I guess it just take a LOT of practice. Mahalo for your question even though I didn't really answer it, I just responded, yeah?

Yes, raised on hula. Favorite is kahiko and I don't care for the hukilau but we had to do it in the beginning.
