I have 1 y old choc lab (still growing) and he is a pure breed. However, many people told me he isnt because his head seems slightly bigger than the rest of his body. Please let me know your input..tx.

I have a yellow lab who is 5 years old now. His head has always been big. I've had people ask me if he was a lab/pit bull mix many times. I have his papers and I also have the papers for his parents as well as a long list of his lineage. The vet was even surprised when I told him he was a purebreed. Bottom line is if you have certified paperwork that he is a purebreed then the odds are 99.9% positive that he is. Breeders don't play around with things like that. The last thing they want is a mutt mixing in with a purebred bloodline. If you have his papers that is all you need. Tell everyone else who tells you otherwise that if they really knew that much about dogs then they would be breeding them as well so they need to shut up.

I had a pure bread yellow lab - same thing. You'll find that they'll grow into their head and bodies, he's still got to fill out yet. Won't be complete until about 2 1/2. But also, you have to look at the lines - there are British (UK) line - which are shorter and squatter, then there's the North American (NA) line which isn't AKC but were bred for personality and ability, primarily used for hunting, outdoor activities. The NA line you'll find can be a bit taller, long legged, bit more hyper and active compared with the UK line. These are non-show, but are usually found in obedience and sporting events.

Wait until he's finished growing, his head is probably just ahead of his body.

Oh I can answer! I work with people who own them (Seeing Eye Dogs).

They seem to be very laid back, they are very loving and protective. I am not sure about the head thing maybe I can ask one of the owners. They are great for people who are visually impaired they are well trainable and listen very well to the owners. I would ask a vet about the head issue. Is it a male lab? we have three female labs and 2 male labs at my job, the males do seem larger then the females.

If he is still growing than you probably have nothing to worry about. Lots of times a dogs head and feet will grow faster than the rest of its body, but when it is full grown it will even itself out.
If you got the dog from a breeder or petstore he is probably purebred if they said he was, if you got him from someone who just had a bunch of lab pups and told you he was purebred then he probably isnt. Either way it shouldnt matter what he is dogs are awesome so just be the best owner you can :)

hunters, water dogs, very loving, lazy and some tend to have hip problems, keep an eye on that as well as eye infections. It sounds like he is, I have had three labs and they all have looked a little different. I had a black one and he stood tall and strong, choc. short and fat and a yellow who was skinny and playful!

how do you know it's a pure breed? i would check with the breeder or definitely ask your vet.

it could happen. i have a yellow lab and he is equally proportioned but i'm sure it happens where some dogs are not proportioned.
