I believe Jackie Gleason was on at that time and he was a happy dude. There was no faking humor and no mention of religion.
But you are right TV is not real life. It is an illusion portraying what the director decides to show his/her audience.

WHY do Christians think life is a 1950s sitcom?

People have the ability, even you, to imagine what they want life to be and then live it that way. You could choose to be happy for instance and realize there may just be something to that super happy crapola!

You create your own life just as all us humans do.

Well, why don't you try being one and find out (raises eyebrow) ;)
well my friend, for one, it's not all happy fun and games.
That's not realistic. There are many times in our lives that sorrow is crushing down on us, it's all over the Scripture.
But what you want to really know is- why do we have joy.
Because, if you want the truth, I have joy everyday of my life, wether I'm happy or not. Joy because I know that one day I will live with my Creator who loved me enough to die for me and be with many that I love. That is no lie.
People that claim to be happy everyday of their life don't know what their talking about or are selling you something.

Yeshua(Jesus) Himself said life would be hard, BUT, He sent a helper, and that we have Joy. Which I do.
I have no reason to lie to you, I will never see you most likely.
But you want the truth there it is. No happy ness 24/7 only Joy, consistant joy all through my life.
And faith by the way is NOT a blind leap, who in their right mind would do that? TH'ats not Biblical either, Biblical faith is knowing that what God says He is going to do that He will do. That is faith. according to the Scripture.
Your right, it's not a 1950's sitcom, nor should it be.
But that doesn't mean we don't have joy in our life that keeps us going.
hope you found this at least alittle helpful or informative.
Great question.

What is it you are fussing about, TV not being real, or Christians being happy? It's kind of hard to tell the way you phrased your "question", so I'll try to answer both.
I know it's tough finding out that life isn't always a bed of roses, and television does not portray real life. It makes us want a life with no problems, no unhappiness, no tragedy, no sickness, no pain. The reason Christians are happy is because we have that life in our future. We've been promised a home where there is no sickness, or death, no hate, no violence, no wheelchairs, no aids, no child abuse, no drive-by shootings, no tears. That's why i am happy with whatever, or maybe it's not happiness I have, so much as contentment. But that's why I am satisfied with whatever He gives me.

I don't think life is anything like a 1950's sitcom. I am a Christian and I have had a fairly happy life but it has been far from a sitcom. I have had many trials which I have had to face the most recent one being the death of my precious mother. I think Christians tend to be optimistic and feel like they have hope in life because of their faith in Christ as their Savior. I know my life would have been much worse to bear under certain circumstances had I not had faith to sustain me, but it's hardly been a "sitcom"

WOW! Perception is awesome. First off let's assume everything was peachy king. Ok we are over that hopefully. The reality of this situation is happiness is not a measure of one person being more special than anyone else. The true measure of a person can only be known by God and a person. However, one can be most satisfied when they appear to be most uncomfortable. Almost every aspect of our life is spent in avoiding pain, but pain guides us to do certain things (ie. try not to use the bathroom for 24 hours after drinking a gallon of water). It is through pain that we learn how to be greater. Christians were never called to be physically comfortable. Physical comfort is man made and only brings more spiritual discomfort.

MAYBE FOR YOU... I DON'T HAVE TO FAKE THAT "SUPER HAPPY CRAP"

I AM super happy... : )
: )
: )
: )

This song was written for a christian family that the Casting Crowns band knew... who's little girl came down with cancer and died...

PRAISE YOU IN THIS STORM
Casting Crowns

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as You mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will life my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

I don't think that generalization is true. Yes, some people see only what they want to see. But I'm a Christian, and believe me the last thing I think life is here, is a 1950s sit com.

In fact, I'd probably settle for 1970s disaster movie if I could have the choice, but I don't. I think the true Christian perspective on life's trials is to have faith that things will all be OK.

I don't agree, I think they want it to be like Mayberry, RFD. Come
on Opie, lets go fishing!
Today it's the Ozzie Osborns, whee, what crap. No happy medium. AAH, the Fonz is a fat Gray haired old fart on a another sitcom, and Opie just directed the DeVinci Code.

Get real!

The question is why do non-Christians think that life should be like TV? We know that TV is not real life, but a lot of people seem to base their life and their choices in morals and fashion on whatever is spewing out of the TV at the moment. We wish that life were like the old days, when things were simpler, but the truth is that they aren't.

When was it ever said that life was better in the 1950s? There was just as much evil then as there is now and as there was 2000 years ago, etc.... I think that there was a difference in politeness and ediquette that there isn't today and the dignity of man has been whittled away, but as for being better?... Each era has its ups and downs.
