I'm moving in September into an apartment and taking him with me, he is now surrounded my 3 cats and 2 other dogs...he had a previous owner that seemed to be not the nicest person, but I am very nice to him and so is my family..he chews up things randomly, not a lot but mainly when he is home alone...maybe he gets nervous? Also he shakes a lot, but I think it might just be a chihuahua thing..tell me what you think!

I have a Chihuahua/Terrier/Beagle mix and the way we got her to stop chewing on things was to run her by throwing tennis balls in the park at least four days a week. Have not had a problem since. The shaking is most likely inherent to the breed but the chewing is probably a little anxiety. By exercising her regularly, we found it reduced her need to chew on things frequently.

Some dogs really enjoy chewing. You can't change that. However, you can give him appropriate objects to chew on. Through training, you have to teach him that some objects, like chew toys are ok to chew on, but others like your shoes or couch are not ok to chew on.

theres this spray like sour apple or something or nother.
what your supposed to do is spray it on things that they especially like to chew on and when they get the hang of it they know no to chew on them because of the horrible taste.
but then again, some dogs like the taste

remove his teeth. j/k!

he may be chewing things up because he's upset that you've left him at home. I suggest putting him into a playpen when your away from home.
