Taino are the most advanced expression of the inhabitants of ethe Caribbean at the time Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies. These were the tribes ruling the Greater Antilles (East of Cuba, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico). In addition some traces of their culture are also found in some of the US Virgin Islands. They are considered the evolution of the Ostionoid or pretaino migrations from South America.

Those are the tribes of folks ("Indians" to some) who lived in the Caribbean. They were there when the Spaniards arrived. We assume they originally came up from South America. By and large they were wiped out by the Spaniards.
