Because they like trying to prove us wrong. They like thinking that their way is the true way. I don't get why the Athiests who have no religion or no thiest background are in the religion and spirituality section. I wish they weren't... but again.. it's like I said... they like trying to prove us wrong... they like to mock and make fun... they like to slander and say rude things... They try to convert us just as much as we try to convert them... it's an ongoing battle that will never stop. Why is something that they don't believe so interesting to them? I don't know....
(Until of course Christ returns... : )
Yeah.. us Christians have our cooky extremists... but it's almost like ALL athiests are cooky extremists...
IT IS BETTER TO LIVE FOR GOD, DIE AND FIND OUT THAT THERE IS NO GOD.
THAN TO DENY GOD, DIE AND FIND OUT THERE IS....

lol, hurt by a christian familymember, sorry that really made me laugh. Christians became Christians because they were hurt by an atheist familymember, same complete nonsense.
i'm here for a couple of reasons:
1. my girlfriend is a christian, and i like to learn more.
2. i'm a non-believer, but i do believe in some form of Love-energy hanging around us in this world, you might even name it a God for all i care.
3. Christianity is too deep in society these days, it's on the money, it's in the holidays, it's in most political decisions. So it effects my life, and i don't want that.
4. i have a number of gay friends who have been suffering from Christian ignorance and bigotery, and i wanna teach the group of Christians that condemn minorities based on an old book how extremely wrong they are.
5. at least 5 times a day, in my daily life, i get told that i might end up in hell. i think i have a reason and a right to defend myself to that.
6. at least 10 times a day people tell me that God blesses me, and that somebody will pray for me. I don't want that, i don't like it and it offends me.
7. I'm interested in Jesus's loving teachings, because i follow lots of those teachings in my daily life. Not because i believe, but because i like his phylosophy.
8. i did become a non-believer after lot's of study. i did read the bible, the quran as well. i did study those books almost, and came to the conclusion that it's not my cup of tea. That still doesn't mean i might not be interested in those books.
i can go on, but this seems enough for now.

because most atheists and agnostics are ex christians that are smarter and know better because of experience with some ignorant Fundie.
Do not believe something simply because you have heard it. Do not believe anything simply because it has been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe anything simply because it is written in Holy Scriptures. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of teachers, elders, or wise men. Believe only after careful observation and analysis, when you find that it agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all. Then accept it, and live up to it.

well we as Christians know that the Word of God is truth and light to those in darkness....I believe they come around because whether they realize it or not they are responding to the true light that is calling all mankind to salvation.....they feel the conviction or the unease and they don't understand why they feel that way so they lash out in some way or fashion against Christianity because of the darkness in their lives.....but we are to speak truth and let God do the drawing into the kingdom....be a vessel and let God work it out in them....either they will come to full revelation of the true living God or they will reject Him...but we can show the fruits of the Spirit and be patient and kind and love as Jesus would so that they can see what the true meaning of being a christian is all about....

Christian chat boards, or the religion section of Yahoo! Answers is for Discussion OF religion and the like.
You don't have to be religious to talk about religion.
If you want to talk about religion, is it not natural to go to a religion based chat board?
BTW: Atheism is NOT a religion, it is the absence of religion.
You will find that the definition of religion is, "Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe."

Nature has presented a area of interest for us, the monkeys, the micro organism, and tens of millions of alternative identifiable species. The dinosaurs, even though, have been many times no longer able to adapt, and left in basic terms some extant varieties together with crocodiles. We be certain that some creatures lived till now mankind via ability of the fossil checklist.

I am an Agnostic and I came here to understand what it is about a 2,000 year old book of fiction that causes Christians to be so close minded. And, I feel certain that if they're not checked, they will soon be roasting non-believers at the stake again.

People reject God to avoid accountability to their creator. Some people are capable of doing this and then just forgetting about it, pushing it to the back of their mind and just not dealing with it. Most people, however, need to rationalize their rejection. In atheists this need manifests itself through the use of science (ie bad science to "prove" evolution) and then they also have to "prove" themselves to the Christian community (ie themselves). This is really not all that different then people who choose a false religion. Atheism/Evolution is a false religion, and science and philosophy are its doctrine.
PS
I am a strong believer in science and philosophy, but these are often misused by people.

This is the RELIGION/Spirituality section. This isn't the CHRISTIAN section. I see no reason for Agnostics not to be here. The Atheists really shouldn't, after all they claim they are of NO religion. Although most of us know that atheism is a religion inandof itself.

1. This question is posted many times every day.
2. I realize that no one reads this when I just link to it, so here is my response to a previous version of this question:
I believe that I have been nothing but courteous to the people of faith here. I openly deny their belief-system. They openly deny mine. That's fine. We have, however, engaged in some very respectful debate, much to the benefit (I hope) of both sides. I know that my beliefs have not changed, but my preconceptions about young-Earth Christians have been shattered by some of the people I have found here. I think that they are wrong, but I am thrilled to have the opportunity to debate with them without resorting to name-calling or rudeness.
Granted, this requires an openness on both our parts. I think that their faith is "wrong." They think that my lack of faith is "wrong." This is where most people get hung up and debate can go no further. If someone disagreeing with you is "offensive," you're stuck. Once you accept this disagreement, you are quite free to exchange ideas. This is what I have found here (for the most part.)
As for why I spend so much time in the religion and spirituality forum, I see faith as playing a huge role in the lives of everyone in the world, be they moderate Muslims, fundamentalist Christians, Pagans, or Atheists like myself.
In my supposedly free country I see gays discriminated against due to faith. People who would never think of using the N-word openly hate and criticize homosexuals for what they are, not who they are.
I see medical advances that could help millions of people stymied by arguments that have their basis in faith. Stem cell research could potentially ease the suffering of billions around the globe, but people of faith stand in the way.
We are currently involved in what may or may not be a holy war. This is an issue of faith.
Our current government supports "faith-based initiatives" in what may be a breach of The Constitution itself.
I know that faith helps people sleep at night. This doesn't undo the tremendous amount of suffering it has inflicted at every turn of history.
I see faith as a problem, and would like to encourage people to put aside their myths and embrace reason. However, I realize that this is futile. As Jonathan Swift said, "It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."
That said, I think that Yahoo Answers provides a wonderful opportunity to try to see where other people are coming from. I disagree with the Christians (and Muslims and Pagans...), but I think it is very important for me to try to understand them. I would hope that they will try to understand me. Once we find some common ground and some mutual respect, we can truly start to talk about things.
I hate the name-calling. The largest problem I have with religion is that it is divisive. I feel that this is the most important aspect of faith that needs to be removed from the equation. Name-calling is also divisive and does not fit into my attempts to act reasonably.
I feel that I deny, but do not scoff. I embrace and enjoy open debate. I think that the things discussed here are important. I'd like to think that some of the things I have to say are pertinent.
If you want a place for only Christians (for example) to exchange ideas, there are plenty of places on the web for that. However, I think that this exclusion of other mindsets and worldviews does a disservice to those who would seek such a closed system.
That's why, as an atheist, I show up on the religion thread.

Maybe they just want to save you.
Yahoo answers did not set this up for the Christian faith - Atheists have as much right to post here as you do.
