Kids' fevers are always higher than adults, so 101.1 isn't that bad. Just keep an eye on it. You can "piggy-back" the Advil & Tylenol back & forth to keep her fever down. Also, it doesn't have to be a cool bath to lower her fever. A regular bath will work as well. A cool washcloth on the forehead or back of the neck helps as well. Just remember, that a fever ALWAYS goes up at night, so if it gets higher, don't freak out too much. But if the fever persists, you should definitely call the doctor. Even if they're closed, they should still have an answering service with a doctor on call for problems. As far as what you should give her to eat. Well, as long as she's not throwing up, she should be able to have whatever she wants - she just may not have much of an appetite. Something light, like chicken noodle soup or toast. Good luck.

It's really not too high, but keep your eye on it! Strange that she should get a temperature again after taking Zithromax for 5 days. Does she have any complaints; sore throat, ear ache?
I wouldn't go the the Doctor just yet. Rotate Motrin with Tylenol. If she's still running a temp tomorrow, no matter what degree, I'd take her on to the hospital. It's not good to run a temperature for too many days.
Sounds like there's an infection somewhere.

let her eat whatever she can manage - a real meal, great - if it is just gingerale and crackers, fine too - whatever she feels up to and can manage
my daughter is younger, but when she has a high fever (anything over 100 is considered high) the doctor told us to give her mortin and then in 2 hours give her tylenol and then in 2 hours motrin, etc. That way as one medicine was coming down, the other was kicking in. This way there is a constant fever reliever in their system, but you are not overdosing them since it is two different medicines (you can't do it with motrin every two hours - that would be bad). Anyway, this helped to break her fever and help her feel better. It might help until you can get her to the doctor. As you know though, if it doesn't get better, take her to the hospital anyway. It could be strep throat or something causing the fever. Good luck!

Zithromax is taken for 5 days but continues to work for a total of 10. Continue to give her Motrin or Tylenol for her fever. If it has been 10 days and she is still sick, take her back to the doctor. At this point I would say just wait and watch her. No need for an ER visit quite yet. Good Luck!

See what the motrin does, my assumption would be that the treatment she was on before was no long enough or strong enough to actually eliminate what she had. So when the medicine was gone it came back. If you don't want to go to the hospital you can care for her at home. Give her the motrin, a cool cloth on her head maybe a bath. Not a cold bath but luke warm or cool. If her fever gets to 103 degrees you MUST go to the ER. At that temperature it is extremely dangerous for any person, especially a child.

let me offer my help before you go to the ER. Try alternating Tylenol and Motrin and see if the fever goes down. A lot of times Motrin works and sometimes it doesn't it depends. I know a lot of time this is what they do in the ER anyway so try this and see. Plenty of liquids is important and if she doesn't want to eat that is normal due to the fever. just drink liquids. And see if she will get a warm shower not hot not too cold just warm. The fever is high, but believe me I have 3 kids and I have been sent home with a child who has a fever of 103 and had seizures and told to do the Motrin and Tylenol so not to worry too much.

Hi, I am a mom of 4 and have had very complex situations with my children concerning illnesses. A 101 temp is high or considered mid grade, but by giving her Motrin and a lot of water you can keep her fever under control. Also, I give my children light soups to eat, more brothy soups with veggies versus rices and pastas. When you are ill, you body instinctively wants to fast, it is a built in healing mechanism. So, if she really doesn't want to eat, then just make sure she is staying hydrated by pushing water. Is she complaining of discomfort, check her kidneys, press gently on the sides of her back and around her bladder. My if she has this until tomorrow evening, then you need to take her in. I know it can throw a monkey wrench into the holiday, my daughter had a kidney infection last year this time, but it's better to get it checked out. I pray that all is well.

For an 8 year old, that is not a dangeropusly high temperature at all. However, you are and should be concerned. That you gave her Motrin shows you are trying. That the doctor's office is closed is usually not a problem because they usually have another doctor cover for them, so you ought to at least be able to talk to a doctor. Call your doctor's number and see whether or not there is coverage. Feed her as much liquid as she can and will take from water to juice.
Good luck!!

Usually the body gives a fever because it needs to fight off an infection. GIving medicine only masks the symptoms and not the cause. Fevers of 101 ar not dangerous....just uncomfortable. If the fever increases to 104 then seek medical attention. But for now....lay off the tylenol, motrin and others and let the fever fight off the infection she has. Good luck and hang in there! This is just my opinion and has worked wonders on both my sons. You can give her chicken broth and make some fun jello shapes!

Keep giving her motrin. Do not try to feed her as she may vomit . Keep fluids in her and encourage popsicles or jello. My question is when they gave her the Zithromax were they sure it was strep or something else that can be treated with antibiotics or were they just passing out antibiotics? Many viral infections can not be treated with antibiotics and must just run their course, which can be as long as 14 days. I doubt going to the hospital is necc. unless she is in severe pain which could mean there is a bigger problem , her neck is stiff or she complains of headache , she becomes dehydrated or hs seizures. If you are still worried call your pediatrician and get the on call doc to call you back .
