A lot of people quote "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." but this is impossible to keep unless the words find room in your heart.

Actually the golden rule is the main tenent of the Wiccan belief. An it harm none, do what you will. Harm none includes yourself. We adhere to that like our own skin to our bodies. Christians have borrowed that from us as well. Christians however forgot that it is the practice of religion and not just proclamation of one that makes one have "christ" in their hearts. They tend to beat the kids on Saturday and go to church on sunday, go home and kick the cat, and abuse the wife (not all just some). Many proclaimed Christians forget that religion is a lifestyle with rules, not just a "praise jesus" on sunday and go home and forget the rest.

Witches and wiccans do not we know it is a lifestyle and we live it.

No, not true. It is possible to adhere to the Golden Rule without even having any knowledge of Christ whatsoever, let alone having the love of Him in your heart.

It is not the adherence to the golden rule that counts but the motive of the heart that makes the difference. And, only God really knows who is his. We are to treat everyone as a brother/sister or a POTENTIAL brother/sister. If we do that there is no room for rudeness, bigotry or hate.

Of course that isn't true. The golden rule is just a choice to show how you feel about the rest of humanity.
It's easy to follow- but we should start at home. We have a
terrible habit of treating strangers more kindly than we do our own families. Give it a shot! It is not a religious decision.

Yes, and No.

First the yes, belongs to those who believe that Christ is there personal savior, which is a part of their truth.

Now the no. There are people from different parts of the world, who live by the golden rule in their hearts without Christ's influence, which is also a part of their truth.

Personally, I grew up in the evangelical community, were personal salvation, is having someone else to do your dirty work, and that leaves the christian that I grew up around less responsible with the teachings of Christ, which I have no problem with Christ's teachings, but a problem with the way that community behaved with the teachings, and their everyday lives with the teaching. I've done a better job living the golden rule, by accepting salvation as my own responsibility, that I have to interact with others, leaves me to understand what Christ may be really teaching.

I open my heart with mediation pratice, and understanding the suffering that everyone lives with. So I understand the forces of suffering that I do not want to suffer, I don't like to see others suffer even morer, cause that adds to my suffering also, and the sufferer sees me reacting uncomfortable with my suffering, so his suffering has become more hopeless and that a sick cycle of the way we react to others can be difficult, becuase were uncomfortable with the feelings of suffering . So I base this rule, on suffering that come from me, you, and others. Reacting from suffering is the main fuel for our lives that seek happiness if we are even half sane, and that comes by helping others to find the level of harmonies happiness that everyone seeks. If I help other with there hapiness, then they well help me with mine. For those whom have the ablity and disire to live in a sane environment also, never need to rejecting anyone outrightly, cause that cause and effect of the golden rule, also needs patience with others for them to also develop, and open their heart that can then accept the golden rule also(a close heart is not golden enough).

To help out with understadnding the two answears above, (yes, and no), when you take someone truth away from them, they suffer. Letting others keep there truths helps not to cause suffering to happen, and others may cultivate and maybe even return the golden rule, and let you keep you truths also. Not much suffering can come from that can it, and everyone may get along even better?

This is the most ultimate answer I can give for you, as of now. Go and cultivate a golden heart in yourself and others.

As the golden rule has existed in one form or another, and been practiced by almost every culture that has existed throughout human existence, I think we can safely safe, no; one does not need to know of jesus to follow the golden rule.

I think that as you practice the Golden Rule, by treating others as you would treat yourself, you are first imploying love of self, but just pointing it towards others, the more you do it however, the more you will feel the pure love of Christ.

None of us can adhere 100 percent to the rules and laws. The law was put in place to show us that we can not keep the law. The only one who did was Jesus because he came to this earth fully God and fully Man and died for our sins that we could not keep.

Well, I've followed it for years. At the same time, I've seen some of the most despicable human beings on the face of the planet calling themselves Christians.

So no... you are completely, and utterly... wrong. And that's why atheists tend to dislike presumptious people like yourself...

I always thought that the golden rule was He who has the gold makes the rules. I would say that America follows that rule pretty damn well.
