Cardio- running, walking, jumping jacks, jumping rope, swimming definately works your arms and the stretch will make them a lot leaner. If you are running or walking make sure you move your arms back and forth to really get the most benefit to your arms. If you lift a light weight and do long slow reps that will make the muscles leaner and not bulky. Go slow and use like a 5 or 10 lb weight for bicep curls, if that is not enough go up to 15. Try to do 3 sets of 25. If you cant, then lower the weight. Best of luck.

Hi I'm a pharmacist and personal trainer from Oklahoma.

If you would like to tone your arms but not necessairly cause a hypertrophy (enlargement) of the muscles to make then slimmer, then you need to exercise the bicep and tricep muscle groups with very low (5-8lb) dumbells and a very large number of repititions.

There are countless numbers of exercises used for toning these groups. You can try bicep curls and French (tricep) curls to start and seek other sources for additional exercises.

When I'm on my exercise bike. I have a set of three pound weights that I use to tone my arms. I will hold my arms above my head and slowly bend at the elbow twords my back, one arm at a time and repeat 10 times. Then hold your arms straight out in front of you and bend at the elbows up to your shoulders, repeat 10 times. Hold your arms out straight to the side and bend at the elbows up for 10 times and then down for ten times. Then with your elbows bent and arms up at shoulder level extend your arms straight out, repeat 10 times.
Using the lighter weights you are toning muscles, not building more. Any movement you do with the weights will help to tone the muscles. If you don't want to take time to exercise your arms while you are exercising the rest of you, you can buy wrist weights and wear them for a bout a half hour and get a workout that way too.

Try Ballet. Makes the whole body longer and slender. The New York City Ballet Workout DVD or Book is a place to start.

Ok, "toning" is total BS, i.e., if you continuously work out one part of your body (like your arms) all you are doing is strengthing that certain part, not exactly building muscle, but overall stamina at least. The ONLY way to tone up (any part of your body) is to lose body fat. Period. You cannot just burn off the body fat from what ever part of your body that you choose. it all goes at the same time. So, if you want to tone your arms, you'll have to do an over all body work out, and burn calories. eliptical and pilate machines are really good for this.

Look at it like this; if you removed the skin (and fat) from a 5' 5" woman who weighed 210lbs, and then did the same to a woman of the same hieght but who weighed only 110lbs, then compared the two bodies, well, they would look almost similar.

ps. don't remove anyones skin.

Yeah! U could try swimming.....I'm a swimmer on my HS team and I've definitly noticed a difference. It helps ur entire body actually. Also tricep exercises work very nicely as well.... Take like a 5lb. weight and hold it in ur hands over ur head and make and up and down motion bringing the weight from ur shoulder blades back to just slightly to head level. 2 sets of 10 reps every day....
Hope that helps!

usually toning is what women should shoot for that is choose a weight that is fairly light and do LOTS of repitions this will tone muscle as opposed to building like guys desire to do. However women lack the testosterone to build muscles like men do. Toning is probably your goal however. Running with light dumbells, curling dumbells, pushups etc. search for weight training on wikipedia.org LOTS of great info on there.

to make your arms slender--you should do lots of cardiovascular activity

cardiovascular activity is an activity that elevates your heart rate for an extended period of time--running, cycling, elliptical machine, jumping rope are all great forms of cardio.

if you do a lot of cardio, you will produce a lean and toned look--and that should make your arms slender and fit

Do curls with 5 lb. dumbbells until you can't do anymore. One set when you get up, one before you go to bed. Also, use handweights when you run or walk.
