Generally, scholarships pay for tuition, books and room and board. Scholarships, as the name suggests, are for scholastic pursuits. Grants are usually given for projects--research projects or investigative projects. Grants may be one-time, whereas schools give schlarships repetitively.

First let me say that while scholarships and grants are similar, they are not the same. There are different types of scholarships. Deadlines vary for all of them, so starting now is a great idea. Apply for as many as you think you qualify for and good luck. Getting a scholarship or grant can definitely help ease the burden of college expenses.
