Credit cards have their use. But people just think it is free money and buy things they do not need and don't have the money for. A credit card is great for travel and a very safe way to order online. However if you run a up a credit card bill and don't pay it off each month you are not very smart as you are paying a lot of money in interest. But our society tells you you want it you deserve it and we are an instant gratification nation. So I want it now instead of saving for the item. Sad part by the time you pay off the credit card you probably don't even use the item anymore.
And if you would have saved the money you would have had more money as you would not have had to pay teh interest and most likely would have made a little money in a savings accoutn in interest.
But people simply want it now and get in over their heads.
Also noone really teaches people about money nowadays...

Whether you think they are evil or not they are what's called a "necessary evil". You have to have them if you ever plan on making any major purchase such as buying a house or financing a car. You have to have credit to get credit and a credit card is the way to start. The credit card is not evil, it's the irresponsibility of the credit card holder that makes them bad. Don't charge money that you can't pay back and you'll be fine.

They are evil. And if you don't watch out they will bury you for the rest of your life. It is harder to go bankrupt now adays. The banks are making sure of that. I know because I went bankrupt before the laws changed, do to my cards. Now I don't have a card. Best thing that ever happened to me. I pay cash for everything. I actually have a bank account now. Something I never had when I had a card.

I think credit card companies are evil with the constant offers they send and all the credit they offer people who can't afford it only getting them deeper in debt.

No, credit cards are just a tool, and so is debt. It's how you use them that makes them evil. You should always been in control of them, otherwise they can ruin your life.

Yes. And here's a reason you can use. In the bible it says that you will be unable to buy anything with out the number mark of the beast. Also they now have the ability to put a scan bar in your hand so you don't need to carry around your cards.

partially so. while it is true that people should be responsible with what they spend, there is a point where personal responsibility ends and corporate responsibility begins........when Visa offers credit cards on the beaches in Cancun and Miami to all the college kids during spring break, that's going too far.

WOW... there are certainly different points of views here. In order to help you answer this question here is an article I wrote based on the report PBS did last year. I broke it off in 2 parts because it was too long for only one article.

"The secret history of credit cards" Part 1
http://jrealestate.blogspot.com/2006/03/secret-history-of-credit-cards-part-1.html

"Credit card: the devil is in the detail, the small print" Part 2
http://jrealestate.blogspot.com/2006/03/credit-cards-devil-is-in-detail-small.html

I hope this helps you answer your question.
