For a billion people worldwide, this isn't just some academic exercise. They live on less than a dollar a day.
Let's start with this: It's easier in summer than in winter, and it's easier in tropical climes than in temperate zones.
If you only have a dollar, the first step is to find as much random food as possible. Being summer, many neighborhoods have trees that grow fruit. Berries and apples primarily, but there's a good chance of running into other stuff too. Raiding backyard gardens for vegetables, such as tomatoes, peas, peppers, cucumbers, etc. is a risky endeavor, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Protein becomes scarce, so you're going to have to find some small game. All birds are edible, as are squirrels and rabbits. You might have to break your buck for some form of knife.
For clothes, there's a chance on paying nothing for them by going outside collection boxes and Salvation Army or other thrift stores. Despite protestations to the contrary, many people leave stuff there overnight. Raid the boxes, and you may find clothes that your can wear. They're probably not clean, but that's a luxury at this point.

When you are down on your luck and flat of your back, things are looking up. After if you are flat on your back it's the only way you can look.
After losing my job a few years ago, I did something.
I made a desicion to change my situation. I started my own business.
If you have the guts to make a decision, then you have what it takes to change your life. It may not change over night, but you have the power when your mind is in the right mindset.
There are powers greater than all of us but we were given the choice. What do you choose. Give up? Or Get Up.
So I ask you, are you down to your last dollar? If so, what are you going to do about it? Whatever you do, go all out and do it with all your might.

I would feel like I was back in college, living on Ramen noodles and PBJ contemplating selling plasma to pay the rent.
What I did about it was finish college, start a career and keep trying to improve myself and those around me on a daily basis.
Last night I grilled steak, and was grateful not to find any trace of Ramen in my kitchen.

I would get a job, and ask for help from my family. And go to charities if I needed to. And pray.
