A friend of mine may need some personal counseling (possibly psychological), but her health insurance won't cover visits to a private psychiatrist/psychologist. And I don't think she'd be comfortable talking with a minister or preacher (I already suggested that). Anyone know of a community place that offers this service?

Try looking in the Government Section of your local phone book. Check for County Mental Health. Many counties in the Country offer Mental Health Services for eveyone on a 'pay as you can' basis. Good Luck.

If you are nearby a college or university, many of them offer counseling from advanced students, either free of charge or rates on a sliding scale depending on your income. Also, if your friend's need is serious, some city or county hospitals also may be able to offer assistance.

If you are enrolled in college they usually offer free counseling services to students.

Employers often offer an employee assistance program. Which is free to employees.

Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcanon, Alanon, children of alcoholic parents, and other 12-step programs for codependency etc. can often be free in the community.

it depends where u live, try contacting the nearest hospital, or even university where psychology is taught and they will be able to point u in the right direction of getting a free counselor or one on a sliding scale so u pay what u can afford and when u can afford or nothing if thats all u can afford.
