Go to Kelly Blue Book's website: www.kbb.com. Fill out a quick checklist about the options your car has and whether its in fair, good, or excellent condition. The site will tell you how much the trade-in cost should be, how much a private-party buyer should pay for it, and what the retail value is.

There are a couple great sites to check this out on. One is www.nada.com and the other is www.kbb.com . I had a 96 T-bird recently with 166k miles and managed to trade to someone I met on here for a car worth twice as much.
