Do you think that when a man wants to marry a woman that he should buy a house and car first to shows he can provide her with a good home & family life?

In some cultures the man is required to show that he can provide a good home. Its not about being materialistic.

Also some women do not feel comfortable moving in with a man before marriage.

Also some women would not find it appropriate to move into an apartment that a man has already been living in for sometime because he has "old memories & experieinces" there from past relationships. It's just like the idea of buying a new bed that only the two have slept on.

The whole idea is to begin a "New" life together.

Well, if your future husband is extremely wealthy, buying a new home and car certainly would be nice to see during the proposal. If you are interested in marrying simply for what the guy can provide for you, well, you're really just a hooker, now aren't you?

Marriage is a union of two people in love and in our country we don't require more than love and the promise to love us forever. We expect our man to be willing to work with us to establish a life that we can enjoy and to be willing to forgo any other women. Marriage is a vow of love for eternity. Not of prosperity.

I've thought of this myself. I'm a bride-to-be (next May) and this is something my fiancee and I have discussed. I read somewhere that if you wait until you are ready, you'll never be ready. I'm not saying jump in with both feet and no planning. But if you're like we are, and busy paying bills, you can't always afford to put money away until you are ready. We are a very happy couple and even though we aren't rich (we're comfortable) we love each other and want to get married, money or no. For Richer or Poorer...that's what the vows say.

It is not necessary but you make a valid point in the additional info about the old apartment having been there with past relationships. I still wouldn't think it necessary to buy a house at that point but maybe the two of you can go apartment hunting, especially if your apartment is too small to accomodate two people living there in the future.

I certainly don't think so. My husband and I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment when he asked my fathers permission to marry me (this was only in Sept 2004) and my dad was more than happy to say yes. If the family your planning to marry into is only concerned about material possessions and not the happiness of their daughter I would rethink proposing.

Reply to additional info: It certainly sounds to me like this girl is a me me me type of person. I find it rather archaic to assume the man needs to provide unless he wants to marry a Step ford Wife then by all means have it and buy what makes her happy!

No. I wouldn't expect that at all. That's something you do TOGETHER after you get married.

if the gal married him for the money then it's too be expected. but if she truly loves it wouldn't matter because she'll be ther for you and not monetary value
