Christians answering this question should address why it is we should not be listening to Jesus on this issue. In other words, tell me why it is ok to leave behind Jesus' teachings on this matter.

Cause the Christians love to Preach one thing and do the opposite.

Because it's innevitable... War is impossible to ignore... It has always been and will always be. Jesus said love your enemies. He didn't say "Don't stand up for what you believe in" I'm in the Navy and I don't hate those people... I know that war is just innevitable. I'm sure you wouldn't know the meaning of serving your country... but I sure do... and I don't feel that you should be condemning the people that give you freedom... It says in the new testament that in the last days... "there will be wars, and rumors of wars"... The Lord knew that it was innevitable.. War, you can't change... the way you face your day to day enemies you can. I'm sure that even the people that don't serve in the armed forces have enemies... How they treat those enemies is entirely different then protecting the freedom of the Great U.S of A.

We do not have to leave Jesus behind on this issue.

The early Christians simply accepted their deaths as human torches or being torn apart by Lions. It is the Christian way to turn the other cheek.

Unfortunately most Christians find this a hard thing to do. When Al Qaeda declared war on the United States, most Christians were relieved to see that the government response was to wage the war that was declared on us.

The Christian thing to do was to open the gates for the terrorists to kill as many of us as they wanted. But, as I have said, many of us would find that hard to do.

Very good question...I'll have to follow along to see the answers on this one. I am a little bitter when it comes to this issue. In my own experience it's because Christians like to think that their way is the only way and they like to force their beliefs on others even if it means war. Now those are just the Christians that I have known. I don't want to stereotype all of them.

Well as a Mennonite I am not a pacifist. I think it depends on what the reason is. My Grandfather went to a work camp during WWII because he refused to fight but he say that if he knew what the Nazis were doing to our people and to the Jews he would have gone. I don't believe in these so called wars against terror but for everything there is a season, eh?

How did you comprehend that the conflict is "Jesus approved", because the church says it really is. there have been many wars the position human beings on each and every aspect are keeping they are battling for Jesus and/or God. Which aspect is extra proper, Jesus approved each and every aspect for conflict righ. so that you won't be able to assert a conflict is Jesus approved. Plus, Jesus looked as if it would me to be noticeably non violent, so now a clean question is would Jesus ever approve of conflict.

The Christian must contend against evil. Sometimes this means taking up arms against it. Then again I see nothing wrong with following those words as spoken by our Lord. I do find trouble in a christian judging other Christians over this choice.

The root of all evil is the love of money. A war is cause by the love of money. And most importantly, Jesus said that not all christian are christian.

Mostly for reverse defense issues. Attack Germany in WW2 because, if it wasn't stop right then, other people would have died. Same with the gassing of the Kurds in Iraq, though the motives there are still a bit more controvercial.

As far as I can tell we cannot dodge a draft here in America, and I am sure that there are many who have loved there enemies during war time. Read about Corrie Ten Boom.

Jesus also didn't tell the centurions to give up being soldiers did He? We can love out enemies and help them recover and rebuild and share His love with them. But we also don't just sit by and let ourselves be overthrown or murdered by them.
