Many groups are working very hard on this issue daily. It is a long struggle that has gone on for years, but shrugging your shoulders and saying: Hey, why bother, Bush (or the immigrants or whoever) make it impossible to win just means you've made it that much easier to lose. Yes, legislation lately has reversed some major gains and hurt the movement. Yes, more people is a problem. But each step forward is -- well, gee, a step forward. Stop buying into the hype and go alternative. Get a hybrid car or ride a bike. Recycle. Give time, money, energy -- and your own sweat and blisters -- to the groups out there that are actually *doing* something and not just whining about it. It is *not* the ecologists that will win this fight, alone. They have no magic wand. They *desperately NEED* you -- ALL of you.

I think mostly the ecologists are trying to hammer it into our heads that it's going to take more than ecologists to save the wildlife. It is all of our responsibility to take an interest and take action to stop the poaching of majestic creatures like the Amur Tiger. Take action to stop the deforestation and developement and other habitat destruction. Do away with legistlators that don't support these goals and to keep replacing them until we get honest, responsible lawmakers that are not in the pocket of corporations, developers, logging interests, oil companies and the like. Impose laws where poachers of irreplacable, endangered wildlife are allowed to be shot on sight. Replace lost habitats and create new ones for creatures driven to the brink of extinction, no matter how inconvenient it is to special interests like cattlemen and others. STOP PUTTING HUMANS FIRST!

I love animals.
They're delicious.
Seriously though, if you really care about animals and nature in this country then contact your senators and representatives and tell them you want illegal immigration stopped and legal immigration reduced to next to nothing.
The US has negative population growth but the number of people here keeps going up due to abusive immigration. More and more land is being paved over to build housing and other services for these people.
It is probably the only major threat to animals and nature in the northern hemisphere. If you really care about this issue, then this is what it will take to successfully address it.
