It's pretty absurd. Jesus wasn't a white dude, nor was he a Black dude, as they like to depict him in Black churches. He was a Jew from the Middle East -- that means he was semetic-looking! He probably had the skin tone of a modern-day Arab. Does that notion bother a certain kind of Nascar Christian?
Oh, and since we're on the subject: why is he now depicted as being totally cut, and having 6 pack-abs? Every time I see a statue of Christ on the cross, he's got the sort of body of someone who spends 30 hours a week working out, and who eats Atkins!

Well let's see I'd say the reason for that is CHRISTIANS ARE STUPID!

If their church tells them something well that is to believed without question. After all to question God is a sure fire way to get a giant flaming pitch fork in your *** forever!

You know the way God show just how much he LOVES YOU!

There is a saying, if cows could tell you what God looks like, they would tell you He looks like a cow. Of course God is greater than we can imagine or put into images which is actually idol/pagan worship. At that time the weather being hotter and more in the sun, he most likely looked like a Muhammad or a Abdul or Yusuf. Prophet Jesus' roof was the sky, his walls were the trees, his bed was the earth/stones and his food was the edible grass. How many priests look like this? The pope has his own country, the Vatican which is separate from Italy doesn't even have to pay any taxes or bills. Also, some people are shocked that some Arab Christians in the Middle East when they read their Arabic Bibles say Isa ibn Allah, or Jesus son of Allah/God; who wear big turbans and ride camels and they have been Christian longer than any of your ancestors. It's all propaganda, like Hitler used to make one race look better than the rest, no offense. Just a note, he was a prophet of God. If God has a son, then who is God's father? If prophet Jesus died on the cross and you say he is God, then how did existence continue to exist since existence depends on God (Judas was crucified)? If prophet Jesus will be resurrected from the dead and you say he was God, how could God be resurrected from the dead? And if God is all ready dead, who would bring Him back to life? Etc, etc, etc.

BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY SURROUNDED BY WHITE DUDES WITH BLUE EYES.

...you have to keep in mind that the average human being is becoming increasingly stupid as the human race progresses [if you can even call it that] through the evolutionary process.

Nowadays, kids see a cartooned version of Jesus, looking like an Arian, and that's all it takes to reinforce the stereotype and keeping them believing that this indeed is how Middle Eastern Jews look. Hey man, if it's on TV, it must be true!

You're absolutely right. Either Popular Mechanics or Popular Science did an article a few years ago on a scientist who used passages from the Bible to digitally reconstruct what Jesus would have looked like, and he came out exactly as you described. And of course, the magazine got all sorts of flak for publishing the article from Christians and fundamentalists.

IT is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS to depict Him as a Nordic type, or fair, European guy!!!
It was not POSSIBLE...unless He was physically a freak!!!
I think James Caviezel was an excellent pick for Him in the movie "The Passion".
But all these velvet paintings of a "Nordic" Jesus?
Pure FANTASY!
And the sculptures of Him with the physique of a decathlon iron-man athlete??
Pure Immature IDEALISM!!
These psuedo-images of the Christ are actually pretty shamefull.
I do NOT think Jesus himself would have found any of it acceptable....He might have even chuckled to Himself!

In Western/European societies, you will see white-skinned, blue-eyed Jesus's. This is because white Christians in predominately white societies want Jesus to mirror their image.
Of course black churches got mad at this and they decided to make Jesus into their image.

In reality, you are right. Jesus was Jewish and from the middle-East. He probably looked more Arab than anything.

Because we all like to pretend he was just like us, no matter what nationality we happen to be. Like you said, He was most likely a pretty normal looking guy for a Jewish man of his time, if He had looked a lot different for some reason, it would have been noted. As for the "totally cut" part, He was a carpenter, and in that time period they didn't have electronic screwdrivers, nail guns and power saws, so he probably was pretty well bulit. The thing is, it doesn't matter what he looked like or what color he was.

When you look for a Jesus historical each people choose a way to make the figure the most beautiful. Let they aside. Jesus is not only a historical figure. He is the immortal soul that must be born inside you. A new conscience state and had no figure.

You are right, but it all started many years ago when artists portrayed a blonde Jesus or at least a very handsome Jesus. He had to be mildly dark skinned , dark hair, dark beard and I am sure no blue eyes. Like you wrote he had to look like an Arab today.

Oh, I totally agree with you. I have always wondered why people think and MAKE him look like he had blue eyes. I haven't payed any attention to the abs but now that I think about it I think that is a good point also. But he was a carpenter so that has something to do with it.

Would tend to agree with you. If Jesus actually existed and was born and raised in that area of the world, he was more than likely a darker skinned, dark haired, dark eyed person. All the nice paintings we see of him is definitely a westernization of the concept.
